This is a strange team. I keep wanting to make them one of the best in a while and they keep playing strange basketball.
Areas of concern in no particular order:
a) poor 3 point shooting,
b) rebounding,
c) poor free throw shooting,
d) careless play leading to careless turnovers, and
e) players not showing up (not certain how to put that).
I knew we weren't going to be a great 3 point shooting team, but it sure seems like we are far from good. Several open shots absolutely horribly off. Several shots taken completely early in a possession without running any offense. Poor play from beyond the arc.
We were completely out hustled on the boards. So many defensive boards lost purely due to hustle. Braun came in and corrected part of that, but come on. See the ball, grab the ball, hold on to the ball.
Free throw shooting has been bad by any standard. But we will begin to see more poke a Dok in the future. Specially with deeper teams.
Turnovers. How many just poor passing and poor play that lead to turnovers were there? And when we get sped up the way WV did to us, then we are just a turnover machine.
Players seem to have faded away this year. DeSousa and Agbaji seem to be struggling to show up in games. Can add Moss for large stretches as well. I did not expect that. I expected more from those two in particular. They need to step it up.
But there is good news in all of this. Getting more energy in their play will help in rebounding, turnovers, and in players disappearing and coaching can fix that. The other two areas have to come along better. We need to be a better free throw team or we will be like Memphis in 2008.
