Guess who's sitting next to Coach Norm on a plane right now?

Yeah, that would be me. Flying from NYC to KC to visit my parents. Wished him luck vs Stanford but will keep my mouth shut and let him enjoy his movie unless he wants to chat.

When I read the subject line I immediately thought of Norm Stewart! I was getting ready to ask if you told him to sit down!

Ok, the full (and pretty uneventful) report.
Southwest is one of the few airlines that fly direct from NYC to KC. I was on a 10:30 am flight from LGA. I paid extra to get priority seating to fold my 6'6" frame into a decent seat. I usually try for the one seat on 737's in the exit row where there's no seat in front of you.
Saw Coach Norm in an addias KU warmup and sweats show up ahead of me just before boarding. He apparently racks up many more miles than me, so he was in the super-deluxe first guy on the plane seating, and he took MY seat. If it were any other 5'10" guy, I'd have been annoyed, but I figured this was my way of helping KU bball win on Sunday. Actually, when I got on the plane, Norm wasn't in the seat, but his stuff was there (Jayhawk bag tag with "Maui Classic" on it kind of gave it away).
I was initially seated in the exit row across the aisle from where Norm was seated in the window seat. When he returned from the bathroom, I caught his eye and said, "good luck vs. Stanford, coach." He said thanks and sat down.
As the plane filled up, a couple sat in the window and aisle in my row and nobody was sitting in the aisle next to Norm. So, even though it was a little awkward, I figured I'd rather sit next to an empty middle seat...even if that plopped me down with Norm. That's really it. I don't like harassing public people, so Norm watched his movie on his IPad and I watched mine (I really enjoyed The Irishman, btw).
The only other part of any interest was about halfway into the flight, he pulled out his laptop and a file folder. He opened the file folder and there were all kinds of scouting reports from Villanova (had big Villanova logos on it). He put those away and pulled out a blank set with Stanford logos on it and fired up his laptop to study some tape. At that point, I DID pull out my headphones and offer to help him if he needed some advice from a fan, and suggested that they "feed Azibuke" as much as possible. He laughed, said thanks, and I went back to my movie while he spent the remainder of the flight scribbling notes and diagramming plays.
It was pretty cool, but I figured for the good of the program, it was best that I let him get his work done. Still, very nice guy, polite to all the flight attendants, etc. and a fun way to spend an otherwise boring 3 hour flight.
