This season marks the seventh in a row that KU entered the season ranked in the AP Top 5.

The Jayhawks also have been ranked in the AP poll for 201 consecutive weeks, a stretch that is the longest active streak in all of college basketball.

Despite all the angst around the team over the past few years - missing out on 5 star recruits, eligibility and injury issues, etc., Self and his squads have been mighty impressive and consistent.

Thanks AZ. Agree wholeheartedly. By all measures we are spoiled and prone to take mere "very goodness" for granted since we are used to excellence. I'm not sure if last season actually made it to "very good". It was probably more like good by objective standards and pretty dismal by KU standards.

We have been in 201 straight polls which just beat Duke's longest streak of 200 to put us in 2nd all-time. UCLA has the all-time streak of 221. We cannot break that this season but assuming we stay in the poll all season we will get to 220 and hopefully break it early next season to become the team with the longest streak in the AP Poll of all-time.

Wow Corpus. That's really amazing. More impressive than a few years in the top five, being ranked in top 20 over so many years shows a level of sustained excellence that spans so many variables - injuries, illness, one or two down recruiting years, etc.

I won't defend our relationship with Adidas, but fundamentally believing KY, UNC, Duke, UCLA, etc. are right there with us with players being paid, and frankly not getting the elite of the elite players like Duke, UNC and KY, it speaks volumes of Self's coaching and program operations to have such sustained success.
