-- The first AP Poll was on January 18, 1949.
-- Since that time there have been 1,181 polls.
-- The first poll ranked the top 20 teams.
-- From 1/18/40 through 12/31/1960 the poll ranked the top 20 teams.
-- From 1/3/1961 through the 1967-68 season, the poll ranked only the top 10 teams.
-- From the 1968-69 season until through the 1988-89 season the poll ranked the top 20 teams.
-- Beginning in 1989-90 season, the poll has ranked the top 25 teams.
-- Kansas did not appear in the poll until the final poll of the 1949-50 season on 3/7/1950.
-- Kansas has appeared in 763 of the 1181 polls (65%)
-- Only Kentucky (914), UNC (895) and Duke (810) have been in the AP Poll more than KU
-- UCLA (695), Louisville (634), Indiana (560), Syracuse (549 and Arizona (535) round out the top 10.
-- Kansas has appeared in the poll in 62 of the 71 years the poll has existed missing only 9 years (1949, 1960, 1962, 1963, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1982, 1983. Since Larry brown came to KU, the Jayhawks have been in the AP Poll at least once in every year.
-- 207 teams have appeared at least once in the AP Poll
-- 6 teams have appeared in at least 150 straight polls (UCLA -221, Duke-200, Kansas-197, UNC-172, Marquette-166, Kentucky-164)
-- KU has the longest current streak at 197. If they stay in the poll over the next 2 seasons they will break UCLA's record for the longest consecutive streak of polls at 221.
-- The team with the next highest active streak of consecutive AP Polls is UNC at 97. Duke is 3rd at 60 and Gonzaga is 4th at 55, followed by Michigan St. at 36.

-- If you give the 25th place team 1 point up to 25 points for the 1st ranked teams you get the following
-- Since 2004 (When Bill Self came to Kansas) KU has appeared in 283 of 305 weekly polls and amassed 5419 points and has averaged being ranked at 6.9. Both are second only to Duke with 301 appearances, 6060 points and and average rank of 5.9. Here is the list of the top 25 teams in points since 2004.

-- Kansas was also second during the tenure of Coach Williams (but Arizona was a close third)

-- KU was 14th in points under Brown and appeared in only 58 of 101 polls averaging a rank of 12.0

The top 8 teams as per ESPN as of 9/9/2019 are the bluest of the Blue Bloods accounting for 26 of the last 42 National championships.
