“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
Interesting piece. Subjective and just summer fare reading, but I was struck by how the top 4 are the preeminent bluebloods...and all-time winningest programs.

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
And #5 is Syracuse, who USED to be the #5 (now #6) winningest program and would have become just the 5th program to pass 2000 wins last year but for NCAA sanctions costing them 101 wins in 2015.
Interestingly, the new #5 winningest program Temple is not in this particular Top 10.
As an aside, I thought Syracuse would quickly leapfrog Temple to resume its place at #5 in just a matter of years.
The results for the last three seasons, SU v TU, have been as follows
At the end of 2015-16 SU was 28 games behind TU.
2016-17 SU gained 3 games on Temple --> 25 games behind
2017-18 SU gained 6 games on Temple --> 19 games behind
So far, so good.
Then came last season.
2018-19 SU lost 3 games on Temple --> 22 behind the Owls.
So the last 3 seasons SU gained an average of two games a season on Temple.
I'm thinking that SU being in the ACC these days may impede their ability to surpass Temple anytime in the next 20 seasons, maybe even 30. For example, two wins every three seasons, 22 wins to make up --> 33 seasons to tie TU for 5th.
That's a real down and dirty analysis, but (and how I hate this phrase, but I'm going to use it anyway) it is what it is.

Here’s hoping Syracuse never passes Temple.
