Would be a great hire for UCLA, getting a coach who can both recruit and win.

Question is will it work out well for Barnes? The Bruins job is a meat grinder. Just remembering Ben Howland (admittedly an ass, but a winner) went to 3 FFs and still was fired. Since Wooden NO ONE has had a long career there, all either walking away because they were tired of the abuse or being fired because the Bruin supporters weren’t happy with them.

What happened to Jamie Dixon?

Dixon: TCU wouldn’t budge on his $8M buyout, so UCLA walked away.

So Rick Barnes was not even in the 2nd tier of choices?

Or perhaps when UCLA came calling earlier, he said “thank you, but I’m BUSY right now.....coaching my team in the tournament.”

As they scream in the coliseum when the USC band plays “Tusk......”

UCLA SUCKS!

Wow. Pretty awkward for Dixon. Embarrassing for UCLA.

Agree, NotO.

Barnes in LA doesn’t strike me as a good fit for him. But they’ll get a solid coach who recruits great. He would’ve been much higher than Dixon if I were their AD.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Wheaty. UCLA wanted to get a new guy in ASAP given the time of year and all the recruits (e.g. Cassius Stanley) who might be looking elsewhere since UCLA was and still is in limbo.

Given your “Tusk”, here’s a little stroll down memory lane - a Paul Harvey “bumper snicker” —
Seen in Los Angeles: left side of the rear bumper - “What do you see when the smog lifts?”
Right side - “UCLA”
