"When I was a freshman, I remember Coach Naismith telling us how important it was to play good defense." - Mitch Lightfoot
Now we have a name (Zion's mom) and a specific transaction: Duke paid her for "consulting fees".
But will it be investigated? Here's something from another article that I thought was interesting. If the NCAA is satisfied that Duke's internal investigation was adequate, they won't step in. With Zion leaving school, it's tough to say how relevant the investigation remains, and certainly Duke won't blow the whistle on themselves. The just need to convince the NCAA (wink wink) that they did an investigation.
Another complicating factor: Duke is a private university which makes things like employment and financial records harder to get. At a state university, you can submit a Freedom of Information request and they have to comply. Not so for Duke.
More smoke, but there will be plenty of obstacles to prove that there's a fire.

“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
As I said to HE last night, offline:
The whole system is corrupt because of the nebulous rules and grey areas and the pervasive clout of the AAU, agents, shoe companies, and “runners” that get in the middle. All abetted by an “amateur” system that doesn’t cover the disproportionately poor athletes’ and families’ pressing needs.
KU should not be the whipping boy for system-wide maladies.
And if they’re going to shine a bright light on us, they need to shine one on their “golden-boy” program too: Puke. (And all the rest)
I hope the media starts picking this up with a vengeance. That’s how KU’s name got dragged through the mud, after all.
