But, will the fawning ever cease? I doubt I watch any of the final 3 games.....but I’ll be interested to hear how many times Duke is mentioned, or Coach Kryzbxrtplky is shown in the crowd or is on the panel of experts.

I saw a quote from one of the Duke fab frosh.....”everybody wants to see us lose”. Yes, we do young man......and most of it is simply because of the constant adoration from the media. We can only listen to the slobbering so long before we want to puke, Duke!

The local meltdown begins in the Triangle:

The Final Four will go on without Zion Williamson, and the real shame of it is he never got the chance to propel his team there.

And college basketball – “a cesspool,” as Dick Vitale has taken to calling it, even before Bruce Pearl took Auburn to the Final Four – will undertake its championship without its most marketable star, who never got one last shot.

And then......UNC has to deal with yet another problem:

Governors:

I am playing the world’s tiniest violin for that Observor article.

So much blather over this player. Head to the NBA, already! College was nothing more than a forgettable detour for him.

So sick of Duke and Coach K and all the nonsensical coverage of them.

Buh-bye!

“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”

1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.

Read an article yesterday that essentially said that this was Coach Kerflufski's last best shot at another title. He's 72 and won't coach forever and he's got 3 first rounders and Jesus Christ himself....I mean Zion Williamson on the squad.

Not that Duke and K will ever be stuck in too deep of a rut, but he won't likely have such a loaded squad in the very near future, and the clock is ticking. Starting next year, the Zions of the world will go back to skipping college altogether, and while the OAD won't disappear, there will be fewer of them. That's when K's longevity really starts to come into play. If you're a kid who's looking to play more than 2 years of college ball, you have to wonder if K will have that many years left.

I believe your article may have been “fake news,” NotO.

K cannot be 72. Just look at that full head of coal black hair. He can’t be much over 35.

You had me there, Wheaty.

But yes, Coach Kzershezpalooza is only 35. That's 35 gallons of "Just For Men" used each season.

This is the guy who's been advising on K's hair color for over 40 years.

In the first article that Governors linked up, I found these two paragraphs that actually present a realistic view of Duke's bball team (bold is my emphasis)

The failure to cross this Rubicon only fuels, unquestionably, the ongoing concerns about Duke’s continuing ability to win in the NCAA tournament with teams built around freshmen stars, especially as 2015 starts to look more and more like an exception with each passing year. Michigan State’s roster was loaded with three- and four-year players, schooled in the ways of Izzo, tougher and more resilient than Duke’s more talented players, moving on to Minneapolis even without its best scorer.

If the Blue Devils can’t get it done with the superlative talent of Williamson, whose like we will not see again soon, and the presumptive second pick in the NBA draft as well in Barrett, will Duke ever be more than the sum of its parts in this one-year life cycle of starting over every season, essentially from scratch? Since Krzyzewski made his first Final Four in 1986, this is now tied for Duke’s second-longest drought since then – along with the four years preceding 2015, the beginning of Duke’s one-and-done era. (And 1994-99, a different era of transition at Duke.)

================================================================================

Just going back a number of years it seems that the champions have been led by upperclassman. Only UK in '12 and Duke in '15 are exceptions.

2008 - Our KU Jayhawks led by upperclassmen like Rush, Chalmers, Jackson, Kaun, etc.
2009 - UNC led by flopper, but upperclassman Tyler Hansbrough
2010 - Duke, but led by upperclassmen (including Kyle Singler,
2011 - UConn and their magical run with senior Kemba Walker
2012 - Kentucky and their super freshmen (including Anthony Davis
2013 - Louisville who I believe was led by upperclassmen (although the title has since been vacated)
2014 - UConn (I think led by upperclassmen)
2015 - Duke and their freshmen phenoms
2016 - upper class-led Villanova team
2017 - upper class-led UNC team
2018 - upper class-led Villanova team
2019 - Don't know yet, but MSU, Auburn, and Virginia all have multiple seasoned veterans who play a big role
