Corpus, if you have it readily available, how did the assists per game data for this season compare to prior years?

Seems to me it was very low this year, in part because we didn’t have a lot of shooters/scorers, we didn’t have guys who excelled at getting open (e.g., sealing their man) and because our young guards still have a lot to learn in that regard.

Thanks!

Points per possession - This is most comprehensive stat. This team had the lowest point margin per possession in Self's tenure and it is not even close. The point margin per possession was 0.083. As an example, the average for the 1st 15 seasons was 0.175. This season was less than half of that. By far the worst of Self's teams.

To answer you specific question assists were way down this season. In fact it was at an all-time low under Self and it is not even close. 2 assists stats jump out. First, the A/FGM was 48.3% which was by far the worst under Self. Also, the A/TO was below 1.o for the first time under Self. Given that the %LoB was actually right in line with average, the reason for the low A/TO was totally due to assists. This team simply stated, was terrible at executing on offense. The 4 guard lineup was not effective on offense. We missed Azubuike.

Poor offensive execution was the Achilles Heel of this team but offensive rebounding was a close second. This team averaged 30.2% of offensive rebounds. That is bad. The average for the 1st 14 years under Self was 36.9%. This season (and last) we were down almost 30% in offensive rebounding. That was a huge weakness. Defensive rebounding was pretty reasonable.

KU was a below average (for KU historically) at FG% this season. We were not a terrible shooting team but definitely below average. Mostly it was our 3pt FG shooting that was bad.

This team had a terrible FG% allowed. Mostly it was due to 2 point FG's. The average opponent 2PT FG% in his 1st 13 seasons was 41.7%. The last three seasons it has been 46.7%. This team has really fallen off on 2FG% defense.

Thanks so much, Corpus. That PMPP stat is incredible. By contrast, look at that '08 team. :-)

Yikes!
