Certainly nice to see Quentin playing better and making his shot.

Wow! 16 first half points for QG! Hopefully he's finding his form.

With that NBA 3 just before the half. Nice! Could Quentin pull a Malik Newman? Wouldn't that be sweet?

Q plays to the potential everyone thought he had coming in and KU is a different team. We are seeing it tonight. Hope he keeps it up, as I think we will need it at the end of the game.

The Newman reference came to my mind, as well. We can only hope!

Five trois last night! I publicly retract five bad things I ever said about Q.

Hopefully the success will breed continued confidence. It certainly helps to see his shot dropping. He's still a little lost/confused trying to get to the rim (a skill he exhibited in HS) and until that comes, he'll be easy to defend. Still, if you burn a few guys from 3, they'll come out on you which opens up opportunities to get past them.
Once is good. 3 is a trend. I'll take 2 today as a step in the right direction.

I do recall a nice take to the rim in the 2nd half from the right wing. That may have been the one he missed and DM followed for an And-1. I remember thinking at the time that it was it a good decision on his part rather than just settling for the three.
Here's HCBS's assessment of any Newman comparisons. Obviously, others are hoping the same for QG.
Is QG the 2019 version of MN?

What I think I see with QG is that he is not letting his misses bother him and affect other aspects of his game. It seemed to me that earlier in the year when he missed a 3 he wouldn't play as well in all phases. Maybe I am way off but that is what it looked like to me.

Good perspective. My comparison thoughts on Grimes came during the first half, I wasn't thinking it so much in the second half. He didn't play bad but his significant success from 3 was only until intermission.
Last year I kept thinking at any time that Top 10 player (Newman) is going to emerge and take over some games and he finally did. That is how I've felt with Grimes all year. That at some point, something was going to click and though he might not pull a Newman reprise, he will at least would let us see why he was a Top 10 prospect. I still think it could happen on a regular basis but it may be until next year.
Grimes has had two superior shooting games at KU. His first and his most recent. Average players sometimes get hot and light it up for a game or two. So that's not unusual or anything to get too excited about, except that you know Grimes has the potential to do it game in and game out. Love to see it but it may be next year. I still contend, the young man has it in him.
