Not the only streak alive

Ending the 14 in a row is sad but alas, inevitable. It could have been 13 or 12 or 11 or whatever. I am super thankful I was alive to experience it. But KU also has a couple other streaks. This season will be our 30th consecutive NCAA Tournament. That has never been done in the 79 years of the NCAA Tourney. 24 teams have been in 30 or more NCAA Tourney's. KU ranks 4th at 47 total appearances. But the 29 in a row is the best ever.

Also, KU has been in the AP Poll for 196 consecutive weeks. Only 14 times by 8 schools has a team been in the poll for 100 or more consecutive weeks. Since Self came to KU we have been in 278 of the 304 polls. Only Duke is better at 296 of the 304 polls. Not only that but Kansas has averaged being ranked 6.7 in those polls. Only Duke tops that at an average rank of 5.9. KU has a great shot to break UCLA's record of 221 straight AP Polls. Duke has the 2nd longest streak at 200. If we hold on in the poll this year we will break Dukes record in November of next season and UCLA's early in the 2021 season. These are certainly streaks to look forward to.

And what if, by a little magic, we continue a little known streak. Three wins next week can do it. Most years consecutively winning the regular season or the conference tournament. I don't know for a fact that 15 would be a record, but I'm thinking it could be and I'm going with the "we still have streaks to continue until they can't" mentality!

Just realized I forgot to refresh my picot table. We have actually appeared in 282 of the 304 total AP Polls since Self has been coach. This Self has led the team to be in 92.8% of the polls with an average ranking of 6.8 For comparison, Williams led the Jayhawks into 243 of 271 or 89.7% of the polls with an average rank of 6.4. Both were second in their times at KU. While Williams has done far better in the post-season at North Carolina, he did better in the regular season at KU. Funny that.
