REMAINING SCHEDULES for BIG XII LEADER and OTHER CONTENDING TEAMS
thru SATURDAY 2019-02-23

All Top 5 teams are color coded and underlined.

KANSAS STATE (11-3) 2 Home / 2 Road
FEB 25 (MON) AT KANSAS
MAR 2 (SAT) VS BAYLOR
MAR 4 (MON) AT TCU
MAR 9 (SAT) VS OKLAHOMA

KSU stays a game ahead of Tech with just 4 games to go. Their grip on the crown continues to tighten. Can KU loosen it up this Monday? If yes, KSU still has more tough games ahead with Baylor at home and TCU away, and they'll start next weekend in a tie with Tech (who should wallop OSU in Lubbock on Wednesday).

TEXAS TECH (10-4) 2 Home / 2 Road
FEB 27 (WED) VS OKLAHOMA STATE
MAR 2 (SAT) AT TCU
MAR 4 (MON) VS TEXAS
MAR 9 (SAT) AT IOWA STATE

Got to give Tech credit, they played like champions on Saturday and really look to be the last serious challenge to KSU now. They should cruise against OSU in Lubbock on Wednesday, so if they falter anywhere it should be at TCU and/or ISU -- although the latter is looking more and more winnable these days. If they win out they have a chance to at least tie KSU for the crown if someone else can defeat the Cats just one more time.

KANSAS (9-5) 2 Home / 2 Road
FEB 25 (MON) VS KANSAS STATE
MAR 2 (SAT) AT OKLAHOMA STATE
MAR 5 (TUE) AT OKLAHOMA
MAR 9 (SAT) VS BAYLOR

KANSAS has held serve so far this year in AFH. If they continue to do so against KSU on Monday they still have a shot for a piece of the crown. If not, they will be at 3 games down with 3 to go, and no way both KSU and TT are going to lose enough games for KU to be a player in the crowning. And there is the always treacherous OSU road game, and OU in Norman before ending the season hosting Baylor on Senior Night. If KU wins out, they have a chance for a share if two someone elses can beat TT and KSU each one more time. One last note -- IIRC KU has not lost on Senior night in 36 35 years (last loss in 1983, Ted Owens' last season). This team may end up being the one to break the title string, but this Senior Night streak is another one where they simply do not want to have "BROKEN" next to their names in the record book.

BAYLOR (9-5) 3 Home / 2 Road
FEB 27 VS TEXAS
MAR 3 AT KANSAS STATE
MAR 6 VS OKLAHOMA STATE
MAR 9 (SAT) AT KANSAS

Baylor finds themselves tied with KU for third and looking at one of the tougher remaining schedules with KSU in Manhattan and KU in AFH for KU's Senior Night still left. Again, as Corpus has noted, the odds are stacked against them.

IOWA STATE (8-6) 2 Home / 2 Road
FEB 25 (MON) VS OKLAHOMA
MAR 2 (SAT) AT TEXAS
MAR 6 (WED) AT WEST VIRGINIA
MAR 9 (SAT) VS TEXAS TECH

With their road loss to TCU ISU is 3 games back with 4 games to go. Not totally out of it, and they arguably have the easiest schedule left. They could realistically win their next three games, but then they finish the season at home against Tech, where I expect them to lose. Their home performance this year (13-3, but 4-3 in conference) is crippling their chances in the conference race. They are actually doing okay on the road this year (4-3 so far -- what a difference home vs away makes in the categorizing of a record as good or bad), but KSU and Tech are doing better.

HE - thanks for the update. IMHO, looks bleak for KU. Note your comments about KU Senior Night - have you or anyone heard whether Vick will attend? If he doesn't, then essentially there are no seniors. A sad year indeed.

JR, I have heard nothing... NOTH-THING... about Vick coming back for Senior Night.

Sad indeed to have no seniors this year. Doesn't seem right.

On the flip side -- if they do become the first KUMBB since 1983 to lose a Senior Night game, there is a chance that it will not be the last home game for any of the guys still active on the roster.
(DLaw did himself no favors re: the NBA draft yesterday. Just sayin'.)

So if there are no seniors .... can there be a Senior Night?
If no senior has lost in their last home game - 35 years - then no senior will lose this year, hence the streak is alive. Is it not?

Sophistry.

It will still be the last home game of the season, which KU has not lost since 1983. The last team coached by Ted was the last to lose it None of the teams coached by Larry, Roy or Bill have lost the last home game of the season to date.

And if KU beats KSU tonight, it will also be another chance to go undefeated at home for the season, something that is not a given. Last time it happened was 3 years ago in the AY2015-16 season.

Wow HE, see you are in top form this morning. I was thinking the same as Socalhawk, but was letting it simmer a while longer. Love your word "sophistry". Clearly, tonight will answer some questions, such as whether an undefeated home season is possible. I'm not worried about the Baylor game, whether it be "Senior Night" or just the last game of the season. I fear tonight and the two games in Oklahoma a lot more. RCJHKU

Thanks, JR!

I agree with you about the Oklahoma games.

I know that's a worst case scenario, but tonight's game really is a must win.
If we lose tonight, I could see us ending the season with a 5 game losing streak to finish 9-9.

I don't think that will happen, but tonight will tell us a lot about of what these youngsters are made.
