Texas Tech hit some shots but aside from that we played disgustingly horrible. We have no aggressiveness. We have no poise. We have no toughness. We have shown no skill or talent. Dedric disappeared. Agbaji has been shut down. Dotson has tried to be aggressive but has had no help. What has Self done with this team. He did not prepare them at all. I do give Tech credit for playing lights out. But a 25 point lead requires the down team to be piss poor. And we were.

What a difference a Dok makes...

Seriously (since we were Dokless when we beat them in AFH)...

Is it just possible that deep down Bill is resigned to this being the year when they are not going to win the title and it won’t be so bad because of all the stuff that’s happened?

It was bound to happen sooner or later, but man, we’d really like to go down fighting, not like this.

Geez...

Absolutely pathetic. Guys just laid down, no effort, no fight, this team ends the streak. They earned that distinction with their unevent play and not showing up on the road. Credit Tech, but if you are tough minded you don’t get blown out by 29 pts. A loss was very much a possibility tonight, but getting whUpped like that wow! HCBS sure as hell did not do his job!

Don, think about what TT had to do. Without thinking a lot, all they had to do was shut down Agbaji. Really, that's it. Grimes is awful. He can't shoot, can't create his own shot, doesn't hit foul shots, doesn't rebound, doesn't do much of anything. He's a zero for our offense. Dedric is a fine offensive player most of the time, but if he has even a slight decline in effectiveness, he becomes an average to slightly below average starter. Tonight he lacked aggressiveness and was ineffective on the boards. Dotson is our best player, but if he doesn't start to shoot more from 3 he becomes entirely predictable. McCormack is just beginning to understand how to play. So stop Agbaji, slow down Dedric, and unless Devon starts to hit some 3s, we're toast. Garrett can't shoot, so when he comes in it's not going to change our challenged offense. TT is good, well coached and tonight they couldn't miss. But the challenge they had to deal with is a modest one, and if we con't bring a crazed mentality, we are toast on the road. I was surprised by how poorly we played, but not surprised at the final score. We simply are not a very good team away from Lawrence. And I know I'm a broken record but why is Grimes still starting? Everybody keeps telling the world he's getting better, but he's not. He's horrible, and he's been horrible, and I cannot imagine how he gets much better in the future. He is almost certainly the worst talent we've ever brought in that carried with him a top 25 ranking. It will be a really interesting game on Monday. Self is a great coach, and if he can take tonight and make these guys so motivated to exorcise the memory, we may actually beat KState.

Peter, agree on Grimes. Some seem to like to hear themselves say he is emerging but he is not. He does nothing particularly well. I simply do not see why he is getting minutes. Dedric tends to be meek but tonight was eye opening. He lacks aggressiveness to an alarming degree. Techs game plan was exactly as you say. And we had no one who was able to counter punch. Some say Agbaji is beyonf his years but not so much. He is very good but still needs a team around him. I personally think Self abandoned McCormack too quickly. He brought Marcus in for him. McCormack started out badly but I still would have given him a chance because at least he is aggressive. I would far more preferred Marcus come in for Grimes. Grimes is pretty much zero. Not as bad as Shelby but pretty bad. He is on the way to being a major bust. He cannot create, he cannot rebound, he lacks aggressiveness and his shot is terrible. For all Marcus brings, when there is 10 seconds on the shot clock, he becomes a liability when the ball is passed to him. They sag off and leave him open and that is a liability to the team. Just too many weaknesses.

I assume you meant Selby, not Shelby. Selby was much better than Grimes. He was a disappointment for a lot of reasons, but he was an above average Div. 1 Freshmen PG. Grimes is just awful.

I'm stopping way short of being embarrassed. We're down several key players, and yesterday was a true freshman lesson for Dotson, OA and Grimes. We're just very young and undermanned, and it showed in spades yesterday. I think we can also say the transfer experiment doesn't really work.

TT had one of those games, which for some reason we seem to get more than our fair share of from opponents. 60% from 3? Nobody beats that yesterday.

We move on from this. Hopefully grow up, and play the role we haven't had to play in decades - the spoiler. Let's knock KSt down so at least they have to share the title.

Only one really disappointing element for me yesterday - Lawson's attitude. He pouted, and physically looked like a 50 year old out there. Limping, getting hit by TT players and acting like he was hit by a bus, then lollygagging back to the other end. He's absolutely no leader, and without our oldest, best player taking charge, we have no chance in games like yesterday.

The bright spot was McCormack. He had some downright pretty post moves yesterday. He's raw, but my gosh there is talent there that will be absolutely dominant in a couple years.

Thanks, AZ. My embarrassment from yesterday has turned to disappointment today.
As we’ve mentioned before, I think Big Dave is gonna be a Super Star before his time as a Jayhawk is complete. Looking forward to that.

Wheaty, I can agree with disappointment, but mostly in the coaching staff.

This year got away from the coaches, and it seems like it's been a few years in the making. Highly questionable recruiting of problem players, and getting caught up in the Adidas trial. Too many transfers, and with less than anticipated production. And Grimes is either a complete failure in recruiting, or coaching. We won't know that until next year.

And I've said from the first game this year, Self has been a different person. Almost detached and indifferent on the sideline. His comments to the media have also been dull, and emotionless.

Whatever it is, this team has had a tough year, with little leadership on the floor, and apparently a dip in leadership from the coaches, in my opinion of course.

Agree with everything you've written, AZ, just keeping the record straight here because so many people keep thinking Dedric is older than he is. With Vick gone Dedric is our oldest starter.
Both KJ (1 year, 4 months older; actually the oldest guy on the team, will be 23 this May) and Mitch (3 months) are older.

I'm worried he is preoccupied with NCAA/FBI matters for him, his staff, his players, and ole KU.

AZ, you have done a wonderful job posting on this topic and keeping it real *
