Just saw a note on ESPN where Fran Fraschilla claims Devon Dotson is the best freshman PG in the country. I have not seen a better one. I can't claim to be an expert since I don't watch nearly as much basketball as Fran but I am happy to see he thinks Devon is the best.

I though some of you might want to see how Devon stacks up to the other freshmen PG's Bill Self has recruited.

This is not a comprehensive discussion of all stats, just a few highlights. You can peruse them yourself fir other stats.

Minuters Played -- Devon will easily play more minutes than any other freshman PG under Self. In fact it will not even be close.
FGM -- He will in all likelihood finish as No. 1 in FGM.
3FGM - Only Sherron and Mario will be better in 3FGM
FTM - He will finish first in FTM and FTA
Rebounding - He is already the top PG under Self in offensive and defensive rebounding. That is impressive.
Points - He will finish first in points scored.
Steals - Already 2nd all-time under Self. He will not catch the amazing Mario.
Rebounding per Minute - He is tied with Naadir as best offensive rebounder per minute and better than anyone in defensive rebounding and by far the best overall rebounder per minute.
Assists/min - This is the only area where he is in the pack.
FG% - 50% overall, better than all but Tyshawn and just barely behind him.
3FG% - Best by a good amount
FT% -- Best of all
Effective FG% - Second only to Sherron and only barely behind him
Shooting Efficiency -- Best by a good amount
A/TO -- This is the other area where he is in the pack but because he does not dish as many assists, not because of TO's

Are you excited about this young man yet. He is clearly the best freshman PG we have had under Self. And it is not close. If he develops like Frank and Devonte' and stays 4 years, he will be otherworldly.

What a difference advertising makes.

If DD had come in with the same preseason hyperbole as QG, we would almost certainly be looking at his one and only season in C&B this year.

Instead we are almost certain to see him -- and Q -- back for next year.

But don't you just like to dream about where KU would be right now if DD was playing as he has and Q was playing at the level that everyone thought he would be?

Next year looks really, really bright folks. Especially if (as almost all the recruiting prognosticators expect) Self lands Rivals #7 PF Matthew Hurt to fill Dedric's scholly... and perhaps #16 PF Precious Achiuwa if Silvio decides not to hang around for his education.

HE, bright does not begin to describe the future, Hurt of not. It could be argued that the Mason/Lucas combo was a key to much success at KU. Landon was never a real offensive threat but was one of the smartest post players ever under Self and controlled the baseline and lane screens like no other. The Dotson/McCormack combo looks to be even more dynamic. McCormack and Lucas are both intelligent players committed to team success. As shown, Dotson has more pedigree than Mason as a Freshman and looks to be a quick and committed learner as well. If we keep these two for 4 years it could be unbelievable. Now throw in Ochai and this freshman class is all the sudden looking electric without a mention of the most hyped player, Grimes. I think there is a good possibility Dedric returns next year, if so, we are all of the sudden a hyper talented team. If we can dispense with the FBI crap we have a bright future to look forward to. The mere thought of Ochai, Devon and David even as sophomores is pretty exciting. And to think that Udoka almost certainly is back next year. Wow, what potential.

One more thing to note. With Frank and Devonte’ here, we were unable (or had not no need to) recruit a PG from 2016 through 2018. Devonte’ in 2015 is the last PG recruit before Devon. The 2016-2018 drought was the longest (3 years) Self has had without recruiting a top PG. Man oh man did he do a nice job.

I find it interesting that many on the board can't stand Fran F, but like his assessment of DD. I like DD and am glad he is at KU - would also recommend looking at Coby White for UNC. He plays fewer minutes (26.6 mpg), but has 15.4 ppg. Neither have great a/to ratios (DD1.6, CW 1.5). IMHO, UNC has better guards around White, so that might hurt or help his stats.
