Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!
Dedric -- Clearly one of the keys to this team and the "go to" scorer. Has only had one dreadful game, that being game 2 against Vermont. The last game against TCU was simply average or slightly better and that was his 2nd worst game. Talk about Mr. Consistency!!
Devon -- Speaking of consistency. This chart belies his freshman status. Plus you can see a clear upward trend. The young man is a burgeoning superstar. He has had a number of poor games but only the West Virginia game was dreadful. He has been our most consistent performer on the road. That says a lot.
Agbaji -- All of the sudden this young man is 2nd on the team in rating per minute. He hit the ground running like few freshmen I have seen. He has had 2 dreadful games which is to be expected. He was pathetic against West Virginia and merely dreadful against K-State. But he has been brilliant the last two games and 4 of the last 5.
Quentin -- Grimes has been disappointing. No other way to put it. Agbaji has shown that even on a team with Lawson scoring there is plenty of room for a wing to have an impact. I am not judging the young man I am judging his performance. He has a rating per minute average of 0.37. Not only does that not warrant being a starter, it does not warrant many minutes. Just for frame of reference, a rating per minute for a starter on a top tier team (National Championship contender) should be 0.6 or better. A key sub should be 0.5 or better and a non-key sub should be 0.43 or better. 0.37 is just not good. I sure hope he comes around but the numbers don't lie.
Vick -- Vick has played at a level most of the season that would not warrant the minutes he is getting. He has not been bad, but his contribution would justify more like key sub minutes of 15-20 minutes per game. Is there a mystery why the team has seemed to play more consistent with him out?
Azubuike -- I throw him in only to reminisce about how big of a factor he was to this team. That was a huge huge loss. Look at his numbers. We sure could use that right now.
Mitch -- Mitch has been a disappointment this season up until the last three games. The last three games he has been playing at championship starters minutes level. He has had some outstanding games and he has had some horrific pathetic games. I love this youngster and root for him big time. I am happy to see him finally emerging. He needs to continue the level of play he has shown recently. If he does, we are a much better team.
Marcus -- Marcus is the epitome of a key sub. He has not yet (IMHO) raised his level of play to be a 30 minute per game guy. It really boils down to his inability to be a consistent offensive threat. He may do everything else super well but you have to be able to score to be a 30+ minute per game guy because there will be too many minutes where other key scorers may be on the bench with fould trouble or something. Look at the greatest teams across the years. While not everyone scored at high levels, all were capable. Marcus does seem to be improving in that area. He was dreadful in the Kentucky game and not very good in the Texas game. Hopefully this rest will revitalize him and his ankle will be strong and he will be re-energized and ready to finish strong.
K.J. -- KJ began the season looking like he could be possibly the first or second guy off the bench. Then he went brain dead and started playing stupid ball. Stupid TO's, horrendous defense and missed opportunities for passes and so forth. When Big 12 play started he faded badly. Then he had the TCU game. At this point it is a one-off. But if that is the beginning of the light coming on then we will be a much better team going forward. Let's hope it was a light coming on.
McCormack -- Very typical freshman. Inconsistent. Flashes of greatness. I do not see him being much of a factor this season but he will learn. Still have hope he will be a superstar by his junior or senior season.
Moore -- Why does he even get on the floor? He has had three games where you swear he is destined for greatness. He has had 12 games where you swear he was far more of a detriment than an asset. He has had 6 games where he looked like a very talented walk-on who should get only trash minutes. And he has had 4 games where he looked like someone who could competently give 5-10 spot minutes in the event of foul trouble or emergency. That does not say much for why he gets 14 minutes per game. Am I overly harsh? Maybe. But that is my opinion.

Ochai
Devon
Mitch/Mac

Marcus (when healthy)
Quentin
KJ
IMO Marcus, despite his offensive performance, becomes the 5th starter upon his return because with the exception of 3pt shooting he has been better than Quentin in every other offensive phase of the game.

Agree HE. Corpus your summary above is the perfect distilation of eye for the game and master of the metrics. That summary is where my optimism comes from. Three of our players are truly special and there are workable parts for the rest. When we look back in 5 years we will not be at all surprised that this team won out to capture the big 12 again. We know that stats can’t fully reflect the massive improvement particularly dotson and ochai are bringing to every contest. And they are playing free because no one expects them to do it. The tcu post game locker room will be in the pre game video for some time to come and summarizes well we are at the moment. Go hawks

"When you have a ruling class that doesn’t believe in — or even much like — the fundamental values of the nations it rules, things tend to work out poorly.”
Glenn Reynolds
Grimes is shooting .298 from 3 in Big 12 play. .298. Repeat that a few times and try to imagine that even Marcus is shooting better than that from 3. Grimes is also shooting .347 overall, compared to .Garrett's 533. Garrett is a significantly better shooter than Grimes. Isn't that bizarre? So given the enormous differential across the board, on offense and defense, why would Grimes get starter minutes. With KJ suddenly turning his game around, when should Grimes get on the floor?

Senex, I think everyone commenting in this thread would agree with your comments.
Watching today's game my first observation of QG was that he was looking really smooth, scoring KU's first points on his first shot, then less than a minute later stealing the ball from Emmett Matthews, and I was wondering if he was finally finding his groove. But then with few exceptions he made poor decisions, shot poorly and turned the ball over 4 times in 22 minutes, tying Big Dave McCormack (who is improving day to day) for the dubious team lead in the category.
At this point I would not be surprised to see (and hope it happens) Garrett start Saturday against Tech, with KJ (who does seem to be finding his groove) getting most of the guard minutes off the bench.
