it happens every january. kids get tired espec freshmen whove never played a 35 game schedule. kids lose confidence momentarily espec freshmen. self makes obligatory comments abt how good we can be and then how bad we are ( cant beat topeka ymca for example). you cld almost script it yet even some of the most experienced fans among us are sometimes the first to panic. so which are we? a potentially great team or a team struggling to find its way? both of course. and sometimes self lets them learn on their own and sometimes he jumps in to save them from going off the cliff, depending on what they seem to need at the time. my view which is worth exactly what youre paying for it is that we are the most talented team we have been since 2008 ( and cld give even give that team a run for it if we still had dok). dotson is statistically and eye test wise the best freshman point guard we have ever had but of course he suffers by comparison to our previous two veterens pgs. dedric is as efficient a scorer and rebounder as weve had in a long time. vick is as good a streak shooter as ive seen here. garret is a phenomenal defender and efficient scorer espec going to the hoop. so id say four out of five starters about as good as youd want them. and a decent chance i think that grimes becomes this years neuman and starts to click sometime in feb. add to that some very good role players who will only get better, espec ochai, maccormack, lawson and lightfoot (wont jinx silvio here and i wld say moore is someone who will need to give his scholly back) and it feels like with self stirring the drink we will do big things this year. weve already beaten no 1 tenn on a neutral court and a very hot msu early, not to mention villanova and Marquette. despite two conf losses so far we are still tied for first in the conf and are statistically projected to win it yet again. lets all take a breadth and watch this team grow with some historical perspective. we hit these walls cause coach stresses them mentally and physically so much that in some games they seem tired and mentally lost because at times they are. but because they are 19 they get a second breadth every year, they dont have to think so much, they just start to play and their much stronger bodies start to really respond out of their new muscle memory. not sure when that will be fir this group just know that that day will come. rock chalk

Until this team learns to consistently play defense — which we aren’t tonight — and hit layups — which it seems we are missing by the gross tonight — we will be a “potential” team that will do okay but won’t excel.

3 freshmen guards getting major minutes and playing like freshman as often as not lately doesn’t help.

Maybe come February.

SMH for now.

I don’t “do” the x’s And o’s analysis.....but dang, it’s been a long holiday weekend:

Dying on the vine, Saturday
Chiefs not still playing.
Tonight....what HE said.

AND I’m starting a sore throat.

Not happy at WSG’s place.

The game tonight is painful. Iowa State just looks like the better team, again.

Hopefully, it will come together and not too late to win the conference title. At the beginning of the year, DeSousa sitting didn't seem to be a very big blow for this year's team. Now he seems like he could make all the difference. I'm sure it is wishful thinking that he will return, but boy could we use him.

Hopeful, we play much better in the second half.

Get your sleep and plenty of fluids (NOA variety), Wheaty!

We need your positive energies in the Jayhawk Ethereal Net!

DrJ -- thankfully we did in the end!

Wheaty go grab some Sambucol at your grocery store and start taking it. I started when I first got the sore throat and it didn't develop like husband's did.
As to the game, I had to quit watching and kept tabs on my phone. I couldn't handle one more heartbreak. I watched the last minute.

btw, does anyone else catch themselves saying, "man, are we going to be really good NEXT year"? , because that is what I see with this team. There is a ton of potential there but just not hitting on all 8 yet

It'll feel better when it stops hurting
