I’ve been chawing on him these past few games, so let me right off the bat say that this was quite possibly the best game of Vick’s career, and he did it playing within the team scheme, not trying to be a true life hero all on his own.
21 points
7-14 FG
5-8 3PT
2-2 FT
4 Rebounds
4 Assists
1 Steal
0 fouls
0 Turnovers!!! (He had been averaging 5 a game in Big XII play!)
Garrett
20 points ( career high)
8-11 FG
3-4 3PT
1-4 FT (only bad aspect this game, a 64% FT shooter)
2 Rebounds
3 Assists
3 Steals
1 Block
2 Turnovers
2 Fouls
The team as a whole shot well from the field - 54% FG, 50% 3PT - and valued the ball, turning it over just 4 times against tu.
But this game from the FT Line (11-21, 52%; team was hitting almost 68% before tonight; thankfully they hit 11-20 treys!) had me grinding my teeth and experiencing FT flashbacks to 2003.
And the first half 3PT defense was nonexistent.
When is this team going to get an opponent down and keep them down to the end?
But hey, it’s another KU Big Monday win, and Shaka still has a Big 12 goose egg in the W column versus KU, so all in all tonight I’m a happy Camper (seriously, my HS campus was known as Campobello because General Braddock and a young G.Washington had an encampment there during the French & Indian War, and when years later the locals finally founded Allegany County High School on the site they chose to call its sports teams Campers).
Speaking of which...
Next up for our Jayhawks (besides the sure to be interesting practices this week and the questions about Silvio’s status)... a wintry trip to Morgantown, WV, located just 72 miles west on I68 from My Old School ALCO in Cumberland, Maryland.
Rock Chalk, y’all!

So here's are the million dollar questions:
1.) Is Vick out of his "slump" and is this the kind of output we can expect going forward?
2.) Has Garrett finally figured out his shot, or was this just a case of a solitary hot night?
Obviously if both of these questions are answered in a positive sense, this team is going to be much better than I expected.
If one of these is true and one false, that's still very good news.
It's also possible that both are fluke nights, which doesn't help.
I will say one thing about Vick: despite his good night, I've noticed that his passes are often just "off". While they might not end in turnovers, if the recipient has a good look for a catch-and-shoot, but instead has to go save the ball (rather than receive the pass at his chin), you lose an opportunity at a good shot due to the recovery. Take a look over the next few games and see if you see it too.

Don’t have to take a look at Vick’s passing over the next few games, NotO, have noticed it as well.
Hopefully the performances of both V&G last night were signs that they are improving as the season progresses.
Was last night a fluke or signs of incremental progress?
Fingers crossed.

I totally agree about the game from Vick and Garrett. That said, (didn't UT have a shot at winning the game in last seconds?). I was not able to see the game - just followed the box score. It seemed D Lawson didn't show up till mid-way in 2nd half. IMHO, with Dok out, this team is only on a par with several other Big 12 teams. So, everyone needs to play well if expect to win. Apparently both Duke and FSU were spent from their Saturday shootout, as both lost last night, Duke at home.
