We showed up late, took it up to 15, missed the first few minutes of the 2nd half, re-extended the lead, OU fought back, but we held on. That pretty much sums it up, right?

Some additional thoughts:
1.) putrid 3 point shooting. Luckily it was crappy for both teams. OU's 5-22 effort only slightly bested our 4-21 effort (19%). That won't fly in the long run. Worst offenders: Dedric 0-3 (stay inside, buddy), Garrett (no business shooting from distance), and Grimes (1-6 ugh). The good news is that half of the problem is shot selection, which can be fixed easily. Vick, in particular, needs to realize that as good as he is, the laws of physics apply to him as much as anybody. There were also several shots that looked like they should have gone in. Nevertheless, this is certainly a big flaw right now, and until we can fix it, we're just inviting every opponent to pack things up inside. If I'm Iowa State, I'm practicing zone defense today and tomorrow.

2.) Grimes: ok, not the breakout game I'd hoped for, but aside from his 1-6 3 point shooting, he played well. Cooled off a bit in the 2nd half, but 14 points was nice to see. 4 fouls wasn't great, but he looked much better to my unprofessional eyes and seems to be getting comfortable. Maybe the "switch" hasn't been flipped, but the dimmer is moving in a brighter direction.

3.) Balance: 4 of our starters were all between 13-16 points. I like that. Having 4 guys all within a basket of each other, and contributing for 79% of our scoring is nice to see. If one guy is stuck, we have options.

4.) Dok: he's back. He's still a very simple tool...a sledgehammer...but there were times yesterday where he had 3 guys hanging on him where he was able to shake them off him and dunk. Glad HCBS negated the "hack-a-Dok" strategy and pulled him out.

5.) Garrett's pass: Self called the extra pass, kick-out to Dotson the best pass of the game, and I can't argue with that. That was a thing of beauty. Just noticing that he led the team in assists with 5 last night (nobody else had more than 1).

6.) Speaking of Dotson: he's fast. Just confirming that. He's not Frank Mason tough, but his speed gets him to the rim so fast it's kind of mind blowing.

Overall the game was a positive, but the 3 point shooting is a little scary. We can't rely on Vick to be 'the guy' for that, so somebody else needs to step up and start making shots.
