"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
In addition to his Near Earth Objects work he also is looking for “Planet X”... but found Farout instead!
Most distant Solar System object discovered.

Dancing with the Stars. Asteroid and I had a mutual friends and colleague here at KU, Professor Tom Armstrong, who unfortunately passed away from Alzheimer's not too long ago. Tom was intimately involved in various space explorations. I miss him.

PS. let me add my congratulations. "These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before."

I had heard that Tom had passed away, but it wasn't mentioned to me that he had Alzheimer's. He and Wes Unruh were among my favorite professors in the department. I stopped by and gave a lunch talk a few years ago, and despite being retired, Tom came by just to attend my talk. I was honored by that.

You know how computers running the UNIX operating system had the "finger" command to check on a person's username and whether that user had unread mail? Well, it also let the person using "finger" to read the .plan file of the person being fingered. Here's what my .plan file said:
To explore strange new worlds.
To seek out new life and new civilizations.
To BOLDLY split infinitives like no man has split infinitives before!
