It should be noted that this may not mean anything other than a way for him to avoid talking with recruits about him retiring any time soon, when he might be planning on leaving much sooner.

I have no idea that Roy has any plans other than coaching, just the thought that came with someone pointing out that KSU’s Bill Snyder signed a 5 year extension in the last year, and he’s gone now.

Exactly, HE. It's more of a "vote of confidence" from UNC that he's got job security for the foreseeable future, and to keep it as much of a "non-issue" as possible with recruits. In reality, he could leave tomorrow if he wants to. 8 seems like a LONG time for him.
