I thought the Vermont game was a very interesting one on many levels.
A streaky Vick actually played within the flow of the game and had a career night. After he came down and scored the second three straight off the dribble, I was worried we were going to see him toss everything up. Instead, he made extra passes, played decent D, and hustled. Very good game by him.
Several years of small ball has given Self confidence in the system. Things were struggling for a bit and he switched to a smaller line up and boom success. It is nice to have confidence in an alternative system such that you don't treat it like a gimmick.
Dok and Lawson together creates an interesting situation. On the one hand, Lawson passing to Dok down low is a very nice system to have and he can make some nice passes that way. However, when Lawson gets down low, you see nothing but congestion and Vermont was able to easily double team the ball. Dok doesn't move out and create any space for Lawson to operate.
I like our guards. Dotson's pressure on the ball is very very nice to have. I can see us implementing a pressure defense at some point that would be killer.
This team has a ton of potential. It will be very interesting to watch it develop over the course of the season.
