Note well...
1. As I read it DirectTV and Dish subscribers will NOT get the 6 Jayhawk TV covered basketball games *unless* they have Kansas City station KCMI 38 included in their local channels, as we do here in Lawrence. DirectTV and Dish subscribers without KCMI in their local channels listing will have to use the new ESPN+ ($4.99/month) to see those 6 games.
2. ESPN3 is gone, and ESPN Insider is merging with the new ESPN+, so paying for one will get you the other in the future.

Variety.com article with better presentation of the essential information.

Thanks for the info, HE.
So I had watched some of the smaller team non-conference games on ESPN3. If I don't have a subscription to ESPN+ or ESPN Insider, am I unable to watch those games now?

First let me restate from the linked Variety article that ESPN+ and Insider are going to be one and the same. Effective date will be this coming Tuesday, August 28. People who are currently Insiders will be switched to ESPN+ by then. It won't be have one or the other, there will be one product called ESPN+ going forward. For the one price subscribers will get all the Insider info plus all the streaming television with no blackouts.
Now --
a. If you subscribe to one of the cable providers Tait listed in his article (includes Spectrum, Cox or MidCo) you will get the 6 Jayhawk TV games.
b. If you subscribe to DirecTV or Dish and you do not get KCMI 38 the Spot as one of your local channels (e.g., folks like you who are out of the eastern Kansas/western Missouri area), you will need to use ESPN+ to see them.
c. If you do not subscribe to either cable or satellite tv, you will need to use ESPN+ to see them unless you can find KCMI streaming online somewhere.
