The main article about the game

Photos from the game

Former Missouri players reflect on favorite moments of Border War. (Not sure why they didn't ask the former KU players as well. That would've been interesting to read/hear about.)

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
To Tait's topic "Rivalry Renewed an important part of keeping the Border War alive" --
Note that in the 25 hours since he published it Matt has not received a single comment agreeing with his sentiment, and only 5 comments in total. Only the first comment, which bemoans missing the games because the poster can't call KU-KState a rivalry, is anything even close to a non-negative comment.
I'd love to see the hit count for that article, and a guide to what the LJW would consider to a good hit count for such a posting.
Why?
Because it seems to me from the paucity of replies, and the lack of ANY supportive responses, that for most readers of the LJW this really is a non-starter any more. I mean, come on, so far not one KU fan who supports renewing the rivalry -- and they are out there -- has commented?
Maybe they will respond over the next few days?
Yep, a *lot* of interest in the topic.
And yep, that second comment is mine.

I agree. Somewhere on the continuum with "hate it" at one end, and "love it" on the other, I'm pretty firmly in the "don't care" spot in the middle, leaning slightly toward "hate".
Here's the thing with KU/MU:
1.) With their current program we have absolutely nothing to gain by renewing the "rivalry". Quotes because Mizzou hasn't been any good in a LONG time now, so while they might benefit from getting a high-profile non-con matchup, all we get is an opportunity to provide them with an upset if we stink that particular night. If we're going to get beat by an inferior team on an off night, I'd rather throw that upset to anybody else. Let South Central Wyoming Tech enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience instead.
2.) NOT playing doesn't bug KU fans nearly as much as it gets under MU fans, especially since it reminds them of the days when they actually had a decent team, and how their escape to the SEC was a massive strategic blunder. The more MU fans complain, the longer I'm happy to make them wait.
3.) Non-official games (like last year's scrimmage, or this almumni thing) just don't compare to games that count. If the only benefit is some kind of bragging rights, I'm not interested. I'm more interested in bragging about 14 consecutive Big 12 championships, final fours, or (maybe this year) another NC. If the game doesn't count, there's not much bragging to be had.
Anyway, I'm happy that people are raising money for charity, and that's the ONLY reason these things have any value whatsoever. At the same time, I think we could do a KU alumni vs. current player, or KU All-Star game that would raise the same amount of money, and would leave the Tiggers out.

Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!
On NotO’s continuum of “Love It” to “Hate It’, I am very close to the “Hate It”. The only thing about this alumni game that interests me in the slightest is that it raised money for charity. Even in that it seems that KU can raise plenty of money without the benefit of Missouri. Heck, 1997 vs 2008 team scrimmage would raise a ton of money. I think the Champions Classic is starting to gather steam and in 4-6 years could be viewed as a huge pre-season rivalry. SiNice Missouri went to the SEC I have happily purged them from my conscience and have no need for them in any regard. How many times has Missouri been to the Final Four? In all honesty, that was a rivalry that was first and foremost perpetuated by Missouri fans. we (KU fans) tried to make it a rivalry but nationally it was just not a big deal becasue Missouri was mostly a mediocre team with no real pedigree. I think the Duke/Kentucky/Michigan St. rivalry has far more interest.

I have said this before, but the topic keeps coming up.
It was a fun rivalry while it lasted. At times it was viscous and while there were good and bad fans on both sides, as the Moo football gained in prominence, the Moo behavior became more and more boorish to the point that by the time they left I was glad to see them go.
Having said that, KU owned Moo in basketball. The record is really lopsided. In football we were about even. I think they owned a lot of the other sports, but really didn't keep track of those as much.
While they were in the conference, I looked forward to those games. They meant something. Specially when we won and their fans had to be somewhat more subdued. They games were filled with excitement, both on and off the court. I kept track of their players so that I knew what to expect and how they would play. I kept track of their games so that I knew where we stood in comparison.
After they left, I can honestly say that I don't care. I doubt that I could tell you the name of one player on their team or who their coaches are. They have become irrelevant to me and most of the sporting world. I don't even know if they are relevant to the SEC.
Playing them in any way shape or form just shouldn't be done. KU is beginning to own KC. Playing them makes their name relevant in that market. We can sell out playing just about anyone and they can't. They seem to need KU more than we need them. I see absolutely no benefit to playing them. I do not see any rivalry that exists anymore with them. There is no purpose in playing them. At all.
I just don't see it.
They should move on. I think most of KU has.
