Folks are speculating about Dok and Vick and Newman declaring...No one seems to be wondering if Silvio might also declare...even just to 'test the waters'...with all the talent coming in next year will he or his family worry that he'll be squeezed out of playing time like Mitch and Sam? He's already shown some of his 'potential' and that seems to be such a valuable draft commodity...is a degree important to him? I have no idea how much other domestic and international talent will be available....Not saying it would be best for him, but...
Probably a dumb question...but anything's possible with kids dreaming of pro superstardom
and he's already shown he can adapt to the career 'fast track'
Just curious...guess we'll know in a week or two
Wasn't that long ago that One and Done was a novel concept
Could he be the first 1/2 and Done???
(Well other than Porter over at Moo, of course)
It's always something RoseAnne RoseAnna-Danna
But then...if NCAA rules wouldn't allow it..(Porter at least attended school two semesters)....to quote Emily Litella:."Never Mind"

As I understand the rules Silvio will not be eligible this year. Here is the explanation of who is eligible (source:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eligibility_for_the_NBA_draft
)
The basic rules that started in the 2006 draft are:
All drafted players must be at least 19 years old during the calendar year of the draft.[12] To determine whether a player is eligible for a given year's draft, subtract 19 from the year of the draft. If the player was born during or before that year, he is eligible.
Any player who is not an "international player", as defined in the CBA, must be at least one year removed from the graduation of his high school class.
The "one year out of high school" requirement is in addition to the age requirement. For example, although O. J. Mayo turned 19 in November 2006, six months before his high school graduation, he was not eligible until the 2008 draft, a year after his high school class graduated.
Silvio is already 19, but even if the NBA were to consider his HS class to have graduated in December instead of the usual June, he's still not at the 12 month mark yet.

Guessing who's leaving is tough this year, mostly because neither of the three in question (Newman, Dok, Vick) are NBA ready yet.
Newman: Had a great last five games, but otherwise a disappointment during the season. There isn't enough evidence for me that he's an NBA level player. He may leave on the basis that his stock may not substantially increase next year, and he could actually fall a bit if other guards get more playing time.
Dok: so big, and actually pretty good at what he does (dunk), but so raw otherwise. Average rebounder for his size. Horrific defender and shot blocker (Mitch is a better rim protector than Dok). I don't think he attempted a single jump shot the entire season. NBA isn't looking for big bodies that can't extend more than three feet from the basket. Potential is all he has right now, which may be enough with that size.
Vick: Will be fighting for playing time at KU next year, so where could he go to get any interest from a PRO team?? May be leaving just to get a fresh start, to avoid Self's dog house which will be waiting from him given the depth at his position (he would have been there more this year if we had anyone to fill his spot on the floor). He stands the most to lose by staying, which is a bad reason to leave, but may be his best choice.

"When I was a freshman, I remember Coach Naismith telling us how important it was to play good defense." - Mitch Lightfoot
It's interesting to see who will and who won't declare.
Keegan from KUSports.com seems to think Newman will declare and Vick might look to transfer. Myron Medcalf just published a "way too early top 25" and has KU at #1 with everybody returning.
Then there's the whole "try the draft but come back" testing of waters thing. I could see Dok, Newman and Vick try that just to get feedback.
One thing I think the NBA will run into with this new policy is a BUNCH of kids "testing the waters" to the point where it might get overwhelming. Hell, I'd "test the waters" myself if there was an outside chance of landing a spot on a roster, even if I thought it was a long shot.
If I had to bet, I'd think that Keegan's got better info since he's closest to the program.

IIRC the NBA Combine has something like 70 cap on invites — and you have to be invited.
Doesn’t mean they couldn’t get workouts with individual clubs, but I would think that not being invited would tell them a world of info about where they stand.

Good point. I knew it was invite only (it was kind of embarrassing for me when when I showed up there in my Chuck Taylors and gym shorts only to get turned away at the door), but I didn't know there was a cap.
I'm sure that the NBA could adjust that cap if they saw fit, but no matter where it was set, if you don't get the invite, it's probably an indicator that you should get back on campus.
