Made it to Norman on Friday PM and then on to San Antonio Saturday AM . Hit lots of traffic and road construction so we arrived in SA about an hour later than planned. Parked at the convention center, picked up the tickets and headed to the pep rally. Met some friends and even a number of my former students.
Clearly, KU supporters way out numbered all the other schools combined. The least supported was Villanova. The Loyola fans were having lots of fun. Michigan fans were the loudest, not a compliment.
We had a quick early dinner on the River Walk and then moved to see the second half of the Loyola/Michigan game. Most of the crowd, except for Michigan fans, were cheering for Loyola, especially the Kansas fans. The guy in the next seat, a KU fan, said he was doing so because of the Kansas City kids on the Loyola team.
Our seats were on level one but back in one one the corners. They were OK.
The game was a disappointment but the the KU crowd stayed enthusiastic but we all realized we were playing a superior team that was playing its A game while we were struggling against their defense.
The crowd after the game was polite and respectful. Saw not incidents or any indication other than we lost to a better team on that day.
Stayed in San Marcos overnight and drove back to Lawrence arriving at 7pm last evening. Pushed the speed limit coming back, with breaks we did it in 10.5 hours. Light traffic due to it being Easter Sunday.
Looking back on the season, we agreed that this team probably over achieved. We clearly had flaws but we were all hopeful. The Devonte, Svi, Dok, Silvio stories were inspiring, and Malik's growth as a young man and BB player says that were are doing things right.
So let's keep our heads high and enjoy the off season. There is always next year.
