“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”

I love all of those shots and tweets. My personal favorite was the Holly Rowe one of Devonte and his mom, with the tears flowing. I'm not sure if you all saw it, but at one point during the pregame show for both games Sunday CBS ran a GREAT story on Devonte. They ran footage clips of his speech at Senior Night where he started crying and choking up when addressing his mom and grandmother. Like many of our kids, Devonte's success wasn't guaranteed at birth, and wasn't linear in the least. Real, beautiful people (namely, his mom and grandma) helped pave his path, and his words citing their crucial roles were just heart-melting. I was in tears immediately, as was my teen son.
I'll have to see if I can find it and post it. But regardless, it's the human side of the game, the players, and our team, program, and school that I love the most, and ultimately reel me in and turn me into emotional jelly.

I can't find the outstanding CBS feature, which is a shame because the camera angles and sound are better, but here is his senior night speech.
His love for KU and the experience he's had at our beloved alma mater is off the charts, and you'll see, hear, and feel that throughout the speech. But it's when he turns to his mom, grandma, and sister at around the 10:54 mark that you get what I'm referring to up above.
I love these kids, and the process of watching each one grow and thrive and never truly "leave" Lawrence and KU.
