“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits”. Albert Einstein
Picked up my son-in-law in Bellevue and headed to the game. Packed stadium. Probably 60-40 or 70-30 KU to Duke fans but both were fired up. Quite a few locals and lots wearing Creighton gear just enjoying the game.
During the game, there was a moment when the crowd was asked to do dance moves for the camera. KU fans were mazing and the Duke fans much less so, I turned to the neutral fan sitting next to me, an Omaha native, and said "Duke fans may have more money but we have more fun." He and his friend just cracked up.
Great game and would have been very sad to lose but the team pulled it out. Gutsy 3 by Svi, especially after missing two in a row. Everyone talked about Malik's 32 points but the defense he played on Allen was even better. I thought all the way through that we were the better team but just was not catching some of the breaks. The out-of-bounce play occurred at our end and it did seem to clearly go off the Duke player but I have been told that the replays were not quite as convincing.
We owned OT. As we won, the young man in front of me yelled that his heart was racing. I told him that he had nothing on me, My heart attack and by-pass surgery six months ago and the resulting new plumbing meant that, while I had to work at keeping calm, I was able to handle the stress just fine, thank you.
The drive home listening to the post-game show was much faster than driving up alone. Long visits with Dare and Skyping with my daughter living in Vancouver helped as did the company.
Stopped for gas on the Iowa side of the Iowa/Missouri border. I refuse to buy gas and have the sales tax go to that state.
Between the game and the drive, sleep was not great. May need to take a nap.

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
Thanks for the boots on the ground report, hoshi!
And FWIW I never buy gas in MO either. On our round trips to see Virginia/NC/MD family it means not stopping for fuel until we’re in Illinois, and likewise stopping just before crossing the Mississippi River on the way back.

“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
Hoshi, I'm just now getting to your post and I loved reading it! What a great eyewitness playback. I'm so glad you were able to go and hope you'll take your good luck charm to San Antonio!
PS: Loved the ending. Don Fambrough says hello.

I am going to San Antonio with my daughter. My first Final Four. Helps to be retired.
