This article is as much about Bill Self as it is about Malik. It says very clearly, and in the words of Malik’s father, what we know about coach Self. If you think you will ride into Lawrence and skate by on previous accolades or reputation as a stepping stone to the NBA or something else, you will be sorely mistaken. Self has definitely adapted to the talent and specific ability of the players on hand but if you don the crimson and blue you WILL play defense and you WILL play within the team dynamic...period. I thought this was a pretty candid interview and very positive for Coach Self.

Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!

Great point, CJ!

In that regard it really makes me wonder how much higher Trae Young’s stock would be today if he had come to KU to learn from HC Bill Self (which seems to have been father Rayford’s preference) instead of opting to stay at home where Kruger did him few if any favors by giving him free rein.

Also in that regard, the article is a great advertisement to all KU recruiting targets.
It doesn’t matter who you are, it takes dedicated work to excel in college and to get to the next level.
Bill Self can help you get there.
Come play for KANSAS!

This article really is fantastic; a must-read for KU fans. It really shows you that a growth mindset is key. That is, focusing on process and effort over results will eventually lead to positive results. I'm proud of Malik for buying into it (even though it was very difficult for him at times). And like Corpus and HE said, it's great that HCBS keeps on his players and sees the big picture.
