A Question, just for something to kill time until the games begin

I'm just curious since many on this board have been around since the 70's or even 60's (and maybe a few 50's) who are the announcers that are memorable from days gone by? Just to spur your memory, here a few to consider.

For me I'm a homer so Kevin Harlan has to be in the list. I always enjoyed the cool informative stylings of Jon Sundvold and the not so calm but still informative stylings of Doug (spongebob backward pants) Gottleib. Other than the "The Phog Allen Fieldhouse" fauz pas I always enjoyed Mushy Burger. Doris Burke is actually pretty good. Miles Simon has always been good. Of the od timers, Dick Stockton and Tim Brando I always enjoyed.

The most entertaining announcer to me was Bob Knight. He told it like HE saw it and wasn't bashful about it. He maintained your attention.

I also like someone who is not on your list but announces from the sidelines. Her name is Holly Rowe.

My favorite announcer of all time is Max Falkenstien on the radio.

I agree with your choice of Kevin Harlan. IMHO, he's the best play-by-play announcer ever.
Also always enjoy Jon Sunvold's perspective as an analyst.
And though not an announcer, I always get a kick out of Charles Barkley as a studio analyst.
Of the old-timers, I loved Bob and Max. Great stories and yet never let a play go by without letting us know what happened.
Keith Jackson as a football announcer and Dick Enberg with just about everything, including and especially the Olympics.

Totally agree on Holly Rowe. I even told my wife the other nght that if I could meet one announcer it would probably be Holly Rowe. She does a good job of branding because she seems like one of the most universally admired sports personalities. Also agree on Bob Knight. He was pretty straight to the point. Actually another I do not have on there that is raw but I have mostly enjoyed this year is Tom Crean. Not polished but says what he thinks.

I like Kevin Harlan as well!

I also enjoy listening to Sean McDonough, Jay Bilas, and Miles Simon (although he didn't seem to be calling any games this year)

I don't really enjoy Dan Dakich, Dino Gaudio, or Jimmy Dykes.

I too wanted to give some props to Max Falconsteen who is now 93 according to wiki. Here what they had to ray about him:

Max Falkenstien (born April 9, 1924) is a retired radio sports announcer. In his sixty-year career at the University of Kansas (1946-2006), Falkenstien has covered over 1,750 men's basketball games and 650 football games — a span that included every game played in Allen Fieldhouse until his retirement and was one of the longest announcing tenures in sports. By comparison, Vin Scully's 67 seasons with the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers is the record for longest broadcasting tenure with a single franchise in all of professional sports

I worked in college at Douglas County State Bank when they hired him. He was a real wheeler dealer with all kinds of ventures going on. Brought in a ton of business when I was there.

And for your entertainment here is a quote from Bobby Knight:

"When my time on earth is gone, and my activities here are passed, I want they bury me upside down, and my critics can kiss my ass!"

That's why he kept your attention. You never knew what he would say next.
