And the emergence of Malik Newman AND Silvio De Sousa!
Yeh Baby!

Fantastic job! Had no clue these guys could win three in a row like this. This team deserves to be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished...short-handed all year and then without Dok. Really, really impressed by how tough this team has become. And...just mind blowing to me that De Sousa was in high school what, two and a half months ago?

It was such an impressive and gutsy win.

I don't know if anyone else was watching the "nuances" of what was going on after stopped play and such, but clearly West Virginia's players (especially Konate) consciously came out thinking they could bump and elbow and jaw and taunt the Hawks into submission. They did their best to punk us, but we returned the favor with toughness, moxie, and steely-eyed assassin aim.

This was Frazier-Ali for 6/7 of the game. A back and forth heavyweight fight. Then KU just stepped on the gas (and the Mountaineers' throats) and ran away with it.

What a game. What a performance. All without our dominant starting big. 3 straight solid wins against the toughest draws we could've had.

And it all came just a few days after I was praying they'd be a 2 seed and not a 1 because I was so worried they might underperform in postseason. The tsunami-like surge of Newman, coupled with the barricade-busting emergence of DeSousa, now makes us a deep and dangerous squad. It's amazing how the unexpected flipping of an unexpected switch (Silvio) can change perspectives so quickly. Now we have inside depth and rebounding presence to go along with one of the best (and most diversified) KU shooting teams in memory.

Self was SO pumped and stoked with this win. Pumping both fists in the air and breaking assistants' hands with his high fives... :-) I think he clearly wanted this one badly after the whining and drama spectacle put on by Huggins at KU, which diminished our win at home. I'm sure he saw all the punking and jawing and wanted to see our guys take a gut check and fight back hard. That they did, and we are now "en fuego" with newfound depth and confidence and an assured (and deserved) 1-seed. Far better to draw a 2-seeded UNC or Puke than to have been a 2 paired with a UVA or Villanova!

Onward and upward. So very proud of our lads and coaches and program!

Rock Chalk...

Great piece, validating some of the points made earlier:

Self likes mental and physical toughness, especially in the face of a challenge to same. We took the sucker punch of the bully, and turned around and floored him with a haymaker.

Great find, Konza63, thanks!

Folks, be sure to watch the video at the beginning of the article — discussion between Jesse Newell and Blair Kerkhoff. Good stuff!
