Let's hope that this doesn't impact the NCAA, because that is huge!

Is this program snake bit or what?
First, this means any shot at a 1 seed should be out the window unless he can play. And IMO HCBS will be smart to keep mum on DOk's status until game 1 of the NCAAT.
Second, best possible worlds going forward...
Dok is okay for NCAAs.
DeSousa gets beaucoup playing time in at least one B12T game, and very, very hopefully two or three games (I'm not counting on two or three games, just saying this is the best possible world going forward).
Vick either shows up in the first five minutes or gets benched for Mitch, and James Sosinski and Clay Young are in harness and manage to help keep the ship afloat.
Best possible world alternative #2...
Dok is okay for NCAAs.
KU loses in its first B12T game and the team gets lots of time to prep for the Big Dance.
Either alternative, Dok has lots of time to practice his FT shooting.
Trying to keep a positive mental attitude here.

2014 Embid (back)
2015 Alexander (eligibility)
2016 Diallo (only played 1 minute)
2017 Josh Jackson (suspension)
2018 Azubuike (sprained MCL).
Yeah, I’d say that’s a good example of “snakebit”.

Take your big guy out, he gets an few extra days of rest, and let Mitch and Silvio get unrestricted game time to improve. Put pressure on Vick and Newman to step up and cover the loss of Dok. Lose early in B12 tourney and get rest for everyone. The loss doesn't affect our seeding cuz we were not playing a full roster. And if it does impact seeding, we're a 2 instead of a 1. Who cares.
And note that Self said "these kinds of things heal real quick, like 48 hours". Brilliant !!

I also expect to see some zone now.
Vick really needs to step it up. In the two games vs. OSU he averaged 6.5pts and 5 boards. That's well below his 12 point average, and below his 6 boards/game average (which I think SHOULD be much higher if he were more aggressive).
I expect our guys to be very very motivated today, and Dok's injury will just make increase their motivation.
As for the NCAA's....that's not on the radar yet.

Maybe Dok strained his knee, but I'll bet a lot on the theory that Self is taking full advantage of a small tweak here. Didn't this happen last year too? Someone tweaked something and sat out the tournament?

Bad news first: HCBS was 'hopeful' that Dok could be back in a week. He positioned it as, "I've seen it before, so we hope he can get back by next week." That's a lot more pessimistic than the "no big deal, we'll rest it this weekend so he'll be good next week."
Good news: He mentioned Perry and how he wasn't really the same afterward. He also mentioned that Perry's game was built around a lot more mobility, especially lateral mobility. He said Dok is more of a straight ahead guy, so he should have less of an impact on how he plays.
Hoping they're doing everything they can for him.

Heal fast, big guy!
Nice sub relief today, however, by Lightfoot and DeSousa. 12 points and 12 rebounds last I checked. We'll take that! (For today...need Dok back for the Dance)

I bet Coach could've wrung Mitch's neck with that really dumb foul on the three ball late, when OSU was still within striking distance of a comeback, but Self must've felt good about his overall game since he gave him a big slap on the keester.
Great job by both bigs in the backup role. Very impressive win.
