Is Vick's problem that he is 'all alone and feeling blue"?

I read someone's thoughts about this on another board a few days ago, and after some cogitation on the subject I raise the question here.

As I understand it, Vick's inner circle last year included Josh Jackson, homeboy Dwight Colby and Carlton Bragg, all gone this year. (Man, I so wish Dwight had stayed -- 12 ppg, 8 rpg, 2 bpg in 28 mpg for WKU this year, and he would have seen at least that much playing time this year with KU -- but that's another thread another time under "What if...?".)

Apparently this year his main wingman (or perhaps it was the other way around?) was Billy Preston, and Billy left in early January, about the same time Vick's play hit the pits.

Now you can argue that it's also the dtime KU stopped playing non-conference teams and started Big 12 play, and that is true, of course. However, the thing we are all noting and commenting on is not just his lack of effectiveness but his lack of effort, the apparent lack of willingness to even try to do something while on the court.

II this feeling of being left behind is a major source of his laissez-faire play... well, I think it seems a rather childish attitude to have, especially for a 21 year old with aspirations to play in the dog-eat-dog world of pro sports. If it he's going to make it in the NBA he's got to be tougher than that, stop feeling sorry for himself and jump in the saddle and RIDE!

If accurate, this makes his transferring or leaving to play pro early, even if overseas or to the G league (the old D league, why the name change, may be a legal thing, I don't know...), seem more and more likely.

Thoughts?  :(

That's an interesting hypothesis you put forth, HE. It definitely could be.

Here's and article from Keegan about Vick heading into the post season.

probably all of the above HawkE but most likely cause for the dip in his play is the fact that last year he could play off of frank and josh and devonte and landon. frequently im he sure he drew the worst defender. and then in the flow of the game josh and frank wld draw so much attention that he wld get lots and lots of wide open looks, both jumpers and under the basket. he looks worse but really is the same guy with a different team around him. i hate to speculate on the psych side but since thats obvi part of it my guess is that hes either been told or (more likely) has figured it out for himself that theres no minutes for him next year. we will move back to a two post offense almost certainly and the number of more talented perimeter players coming in will make his minutes very scarce. his is the scholarship self has already reallocated in my opinion. its harsh but thats life in the big leagues. he wld be much better off playing a senior year in a pgm where he can be a key piece, perhaps mid major. while he has been disappointing this year i dont think he deserves the venom sometimes displayed on this board ( not by you) .

It's certainly possible, and I don't know enough about his personal life to say.

I will say this: with such a short bench, it's almost as if Self couldn't bench him even if he wanted to. So he's being "rewarded" with lots of PT without earning it. It's kind of like communism...take away incentives and productivity drops. He's going to get his minutes whether he goes 100% or 80%, so why work so hard.

Where his logic fails, of course, is that he COULD have a huge role on the team next year if he earned it this year. No matter how good a kid is coming in, as a senior, you should know the system and have a leg up on the competition. Look at Landon Lucas. Never projected to our go-to post guy, but look how it panned out. If you put in the work and are ready when opportunity knocks, you have a shot. In his case, opportunity certainly has knocked and could potentially knock again but he doesn't seem to want to go answer the door.
