“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
They look great, but I always shudder when they break out the crimson.
Remember March 29, 1986...

Listening to the postgame interviews with the Seniors and they talked about how DG had to convince Self that they would be okay in the red unis. DG noted that Self is a bit superstitious and did not really want to have them wearing red. But DG got the okay from Self to get them ordered, and then after the TT win he asked Self if they could wear them on Senior Night. Self reportedly said ok, but they better play good.

It's funny that Self went all the way back to '86 as well, just like me. Some things stick in your craw and lead to major superstitious paranoia.
'86 still breaks my heart. For some reason, more than '97, though '97 is my runner up.
SMH... (still, to this day)

1986 over 1997 in part because The Wizards of Ahs made the Final Four and JV, PP, RL and the gang did not, even though in the end both were derailed by injury (1986 Marshall; 1997 Haase and Pollard). Also in part because 1986 was the first time in over a decade KU had been to the Final Four, and to be in control of the game only to lose to puke after Archie went down, and then to watch puke lose to Louisville, who we had beaten not once but twice already that season -- well, it's enough to make ya cry, guy, and many of us did.

They say that you can't write and play the blues unless you've experienced actual heartache and pain.
Well, speaking as KU fans thinking about post-season punches to the gut, Willie Dixon, Robert Johnson, Little Willie Littlefield, Mississippi John Hurt, Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, BB, Stevie Ray, and all the rest ain't got nuthin' on us.
