I am, to put it lightly, just beaming ear to ear, and have been since finishing the game (on delayed DVR, sadly, due to commitments today).
Tonight is not about the Xs and Os of this particular game. That has been covered already quite nicely on the board, and we all saw the exceptional game in which our lads - in the highest-stakes game of their careers - did not just get it done. They did not falter and shrivel like many teams would, with such immense pressure of history on their backs (it's so hard to win consistently when you're motivated by the "fear of not losing" or, in this case, the "fear of being the team that failed to secure the history-making championship.") Instead, in a hostile Gameday atmosphere, with fireworks going off before tipoff, facing a very sound Texas Tech team, all they did was go out and lead (save for one tie late in the game) from start to finish. Now that is impressive!
Tonight is for this team, this coach, this staff, these players, all the support people...and ALL of their mirror images for the past 14 seasons. All the great players during that long stretch, all the walk-ons helping to make the team better day by day, in practice and through off-court team rapport and chemistry. All the physical trainers (Hudy, we're looking at you!), all the families, the moms and dads of the players, the siblings, all the support networks. To the students, the fans, the alums, the Barn, the great great town of Lawrence, and to the broader national and worldwide Flock whose support, representation, lung power, and myriad superstitions all - yes, all - willed these teams to great heights for the past 14 seasons...and counting. (Cuz, world, we ain't done yet!)
How sweet it is, baby. HOW SWEET IT IS!!!
RCJHKU14!!!
βWith kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.β

Yelling βDilly dilly, 14 straight!β during an arrest has less than a 20% chance of getting you out of it so itβs not even worth trying.

My favorite part of any season is watching the TEAM grow and the players mature. I know March unfortunately is how people judge a season, I am just as guilty as everyone else. Asides from most years having to watch a painful L.. The thing that always gets me down is knowing that a particulate TEAM, and those players who give their guts will no longer get to put on that Kansas Hoops Jersey..ole Roy was right about two things, enjoy the journey and I donβt give 2 cents, or something like that, about UNC
So happy for these guys, letβs hook em Horns Monday so we donβt have to share.
PS LPD Twitter is hilarious
