HCBS said that the WVU game showed the guys they could win even when they do not shoot the ball well. This game was an even bigger example of that. I just hope they start shooting well again because that is important if we are going to keep winning.

We've won two straight games where we did nit shoot well in no small part due to the fact that the opponents have lousy offensive games.
We go into Norman shooting like we have the last two games and our guys will be coming home with their figurative tails between their legs.
The big plus playing OU is that this year they seem to be as bad on defense as WVU and BU are on offense.
I cannot recall a season where I have felt so jittery about our prospects.
But it is good to be atop the hill at this point in the conference race.
Now to stay there, all alone...

We won these games with situational defense. At times we did not guard, when the game was in question we played strong team and individual D. If we could just get a few more defensive boards we would be able to win games without as much drama.

Agreed. I would add that our offensive rebounding technique (or lack thereof) leaves a LOT to be desired. Our biggest body by far is Doke, and I love him, but he stands around behind his man SO often instead of fighting for position for putbacks. Think about it--how often do you recall Doke getting an OR for a putback? I submit, not often at all.
Rebounding on both ends is most definitely an Achilles heel for this squad. Here's hoping that De Sousa can get better quickly and help alleviate that a bit.
The D, meanwhile, shows flashes, as you note, Illhawk, but it needs to be on display much more ubiquitously.

In one first half timeout Self was ripping a new orifice for Doke, and given the game situation and the body language it was clear to me the harangue centered on Doke not using his mass better in blocking out and rebounding. I was watching Self and watching Doke and just shaking my head as the flames splashed against the asbestos.
Made me very uncomfortable just watching it.
