This team was either etter at stopping the drive or these guards are slightly slower than some we have faced in the past. I did not see them turn the corner as easily on Graham as they have in the past.
Defense overall was good. I liked seeing us jump the passing lanes from time to time. It kept them honest. The brief switch to the zone was nice to see again.
Efficiency still could use a boost, but it wasn't as bad as the past games. Three very soft/weird turnovers by Graham aside. Keep those three possessions with a decent shot and the game is a little more comfortable.
Free throws. We missed a couple we shouldn't have. With the liability at the line that Dok represents, the others have to be that much better. Specially since we are not getting to the line as frequently as we would like.
Some bad judgement on display by Graham that paid off. He is not Frank and does not finish like Frank did. In my opinion, he should be driving looking to dish to the open shooter rather than drive in with little hope for a good shot. Yes he got to the free throw line, but it was at a tremendous cost to his body and we cannot afford to have him go down with an injury or be at less than 100%.
Mitch was stellar and deserves a ton of praise for his energy, his effectiveness, his blocking, his rebounding, his blocks, etc. Fantastic game by him. Pretty sure we would not have won that game without his play.
Cunliffe, Vick, and Garrett all need to step up their game. They all seem capable, but they just aren't getting it at this point. Hopefully they will turn the corner her and get it going. If they step up, we can go a long way even without Preston and the new guy coming in anytime soon.
Just some random thoughts

Good stuff as always Kong. I agree that the D looked much better. Not sure what helped that along but I am sure there was some practice “motivation” to go along with the soft comments. But ball screen D as well as 3pt closeouts looked much improved.
I get your assessment of DG, but the kid never comes off the floor. 533 min played so far. Svi is the closest with 500. That’s almost like playing another entire game than every other player. What I do know is whatever level of fitness he’s at it’s not affecting his FTs. You are right, we missed a few that would have provided some more cushion. But take away DGs FTs and they shoot 65% as a team. Yuck.
I too was looking for better things from Vick. I want some attitude. We know we are going to get rainbows and unicorns from Devonte because that just his nature. I thought that toughness might come from Vick. It hasn’t.
Garrett is being forced into service because Newman just isn’t as advertised. I believe with more PT and a certain starter status he will get better.
I like Cunliffe a lot. I am hoping this week with ISU coming he can get some more minutes. He generally makes good decisions and shoots a decent % from the field and from 3.
Like I mentioned in another post I was truly afraid Mitch was going to get the “Mickelson Treatment”. I believe that would have been a mistake. I think this game will go a long way in making sure he get more minutes even if De Sousa or Preston play.
Looking forward to righting the ship on Tuesday!!

RKCKJHK!!!
Just checked. Now not everyone has played 15 games but the only player in the Big 12 to DGs TMP is Carter from WVU. He has 507.
