This quote from Graham hits the nail on the head. I have read questions of what kind of zone was it. It was a 23 zone that had 4 players playing the perimeter. We hear that Devonte, Svi, and Newman had bad games, and yes they didn't play well, but they played 3 on 4 while Vick and the post played 2 on 1. I just can't believe we couldn't have scored 75% of the time against this defense!

“They executed their game plan pretty well,” Graham said. “Every time we threw the ball to the high post, both of the top guys just stayed with me basically, and the bottom wings fanned out and took away Malik (Newman) and Svi (Mykahiliuk) and just basically said let's make Lagerald (Vick) make every play. ...They did a good job of not letting us get comfortable and make shots.”

And they knew that Dok was the only legitimate consistent threat in that High/Low scheme and it is a given that they could limit his minuets due to foul issues- get him out and they could then cheat a bit on Vick and make his looks a bit harder while eliminating our ability to offensive rebound! NEED SOME QUALITY DEPTH INSIDE!!!

....and we played a continuation of the Syracuse game.

Turns out that their coach had some long conversations with a couple of 'Cuse assistants who essentially gave him the best scouting report he could have asked for. Can't blame him, he was with the program forever and I'm sure still has great relationships there. Very smart of him actually.

Nevertheless, in addition to watching the game, he got all of the insights from Syracuse on what was working, what wasn't working, and how they would have adjusted their game plan. Since he runs the same system, it was as if we played 2 more halves of basketball against almost the same team.

So while Syracuse didn't figure it out in the first 40 minutes, they cracked the code in the last 40 minutes.
