That was an ugly game. No doubt about it. It showed how thin we really are up front, but I don't think that was what killed us overall.

Washington had a pretty good game plan.

Defensively it was: No three pointers will go uncontested and eliminate the dunk. So they swarmed the perimeter and never let the big behind the zone have movement without a body on him. This left the 10 footer open all night long. For a good portion of it Vick exploited that. For more than he should of he didn't. Vick had a good night, but given the D that was being played, a player of his caliber should have had a GREAT night. We could not hit the contested three and did not get enough dunks on the D to warrant any changes to be made by Washington.

Offensively I was surprised at how quick Washington was. Some of their guards were lightening quick. Our D was decent, but not spectacular and that was mostly due to their guards quickness, in my opinion.

KU on the other hand, did not capitalize enough on what was given to them. Vick scored a number of times but should have scored much more. Some he forced and missed, some he was too tentative and missed, but often he looked to find another pass when he could have gone strong to the basket or taken the mid range shot. The threes we took were marginal at best and when we did have a good look, it was mentally rushed making for a very poor shooting night. In the past we would have handed the ball to Mason and he would have taken over the game. We do not have a finisher of his caliber out there and it showed. This team will have to rely on team consistency and being flexible enough to take what is given to them efficiently and ruthlessly.

On D, we fought through screens and switched and tried everything we could, but could not match the speed of the Washington guards. As the game went on they got more and more confident and in short order the game was over.

I still think this team has a ton of growth left in them, but they will have to win through efficiency more than willpower.

Just my two cents worth

Bottom line- Until we add at least 2 more scholy players to our rotation we are hamstrung! Imagine BP playing high post last night and letting LGV roam the perimeter. Throw in Cunliff to give a bit of rest and you have a different ballgame. Tired legs at the end of a game makes comeback hard.
