I understand that we're playing far less talented teams lately, but as the announcers noted, it is still impressive that one game has a record 3 point shooting while the next is won by more inside out play, yet over a hundred points are scored in both.

A couple of comments about tonight's game: Doke appeared to get more rebounds than usual. Haven't seen the box score, but he seemed to respond to Self's complaints about his being 3rd in rebounding. Also, I thought Lightfoot's play was outstanding and probably will get a bit more praise than usual from HCBS. It's sad that Preston is benched--for the moment we hope--but Mitch is getting playing time resulting in the opportunity for him to gain confidence and improve.

This is a fun team to watch and it will be interesting to see how they perform against stronger competition.

P. S.
I stay with Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) solely because they have a sports channel that carries the KU games no other channels do.

Both Dok and ML played solid and improving games, with (as you noted) Billy's bench time providing valuable positive in-game experience for Mitch. Dok seems to be quite the sponge when it comes to learning the game (judging by the little bit of improvement we see with practically every game), but his FT shooting is going to kill us in a tight situation where we need him on the court (obvious, I know). I have to believe that someone is working with him on his technique, but so far he has shown none. Last night on the line, technique-wise we saw more variations on a theme from him than we would normally hear from a jamming jazz master. FT shooting is really the only huge defect in his game that he does not seem to be addressing -- and I am not saying he is not trying, just that we aren't seeing any results from whatever he is doing in practice.

Re: TV -- I left Midco (formerly WoW/Knology/Sunflower) for DirecTV even though DTV did not have a deal with Spectrum/Time Warner (as MidCo et al. did) to carry all the KU games. The financial difference was just too great, usually only the men's hoops 2 exhibition and 4 regular season Jayhawk TV games were missed, and each new owner (now 4 in the last 10 years) kept dropping channels we loved (e.g. BBC America) from the lineup, so I'd finally had enough and left. With KMCI TV 38 picking up the SImulcast contract with Spectrum, the one thing I was missing with leaving Midco has been addressed, and I'm a happy camper.

Totally agree on Dok's lack of free throw shooting skills and the possible effects this will have in crucial situations. His "technique" seems to be just to heave it up and hope for the best. Who was it on last year's team who was so bad at the line? Was it Josh?

Glad you're with a provider who gives you a good package, Sir Hawk. I may have to relent and make a change, also.

Hi Murphy and HE!

Obviously living on the left coast, I get NO JTv games......Except, my “bundle” is Xfinity (not sure of the main company). Anyway I am able to pick up ESPN 3 on my computer.....comes w the Xfinity......not the best, but it’ll do.

Ability to pick up the ESPN family is always of prime consideration in my “bundle provider” selection. Yes, I maintain a land line....cell reception not the best at current domicile.

I'm watching these guys with "tempered enthusiasm". Oakland is a decent team, but the reality is that they had no chance of winning at AFH. Nevertheless, to beat them THAT soundly..that's a good thing.

What's fun is that you know after our 3 point outburst the other night, HCBS probably said, "let's work on getting Dok more involved this time" and then blammmo...20 points and most of the points coming from inside the 3 point line. Kind of feel like if HCBS said, "let's try to win left-handed" the team would respond.

Some updated thoughts on the team:
>Dok: simple and effective like a sledge hammer. Give him the ball and he's gonna try to dunk on you and there's probably not much you can do about it. This will change as he gets double-teamed, but as long as he's in the game, you have to either play him 1-on-1 and watch him dunk, OR double him and watch one of our perimeter guys rain 3s on you. Free throws are an obvious achilles heel for him. I don't think that's an easy fix, but I would love to see him shoot underhand.

>Svi: I've changed my opinion on him. Earlier in the season I thought he wasn't quite what he was advertised to be. I apologize. I still think he's better when he's moving or creating shots (rather than camping out waiting for a 3) but I think the switch has been turned on there.

>Vick is an amazing talent.

I'm hoping but not hopeFUL on the Preston issue getting cleared up anytime soon in a good way. In the meantime, when these guys play well, they play really well. I think we'll eventually have a game where Dok is in foul trouble and the 3's aren't falling, and our lack of depth/options will cost us.

To me the #1 good thing about the last game was ML getting minutes. He's playing better, and I think everyone recognizes that he's a small forward, and not a post guy. He's certainly putting in the effort.

As for coverage, I've steamed the last few games off the ESPN app, so no issues there. I actually streamed live audio of the Oakland game driving back from T-giving in DC on Friday night, and then watched the replay on the ESPN app in the morning. Can't complain about modern technology delivering me the basketball I want.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.
