BIG 12 MEN'S BASKETBALL STANDINGS as of 2018-02-18
KU and Tech share a 2 game lead over the field with just 4 games to go per team.
All 8 loss teams are out of the title chase, since one of KU and TT are 100% certain to win at least 1 more game (thanks, asteroid!)
KU must win out to ENSURE it's 14th straight title without having to share it.
That starts today in AFH against visiting OU, the first of 3 of the remaining 4 games that give KU a chance to avenge a loss in the first meetings this season (OU, TT and OSU).
Tech, with Zach Smith still out and starting PG Keenan Evans listed as "day to day" as I write this, has to go to OSU on Wednesday. The Pokes are always tough at home, and hungry for a win to bolster their NCAA Tournament resume after losing their last 2 games to drop to 15-12 (5-9 Big 12)..
Depending on the early outcomes this week, the KU @TT game on Saturday could be:
1. for a one game lead over the other with two games to go (if both win or both lose earlier in the week)
2. for a two game KU lead over TT and at least a share of #14 with two games to go if KU wins v OU and OSU beats TT, or
3. for a two game TT lead over KU and at least a share of the title with two games to go if KU loses v OU and TT beats OSU

KU has a 1/2 game lead over Tech with just 3 and 4 games respectively to go, including the head-to-head in Lubbock on Saturday..
All 8 loss teams are now mathematically eliminated from the title chase.
KU must win out to ENSURE it's 14th straight title without having to share it.
With the AFH win against OU, the first of 3 revenge games out of the remaining 4 games has gone KU's way.
As noted above, Self's Jayhawks have NEVER been swept in Big 12 play, so here's to history repeating itself yet again against Tech and OSU.

Losing to Tech would mean KU would have to beat Texas in AFH and OKSt in Stillwater in order to earn at least a share of the title should Tech not lose another game.
Remember, Self's Jayhawks have NEVER been swept in Big 12 play, and although Keenan Evans played for Tech tonight, he was largely ineffective due to his toe injury. So here's to history repeating itself yet again against Tech and KU giving them their first home loss of the year in clinching #14!

SENIOR NIGHT
AT STAKE -- the 34 straight Senior Night winning streak -- a streak that began in the 1983-84 season, the very first year of Larry Brown -- and sole claim to the title of 2018 Big XII champs.
Beating Texas will always be sweet, even more so on Senior NIght as we say goodbye to the AFH playing careers of Clay Young, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and Devonté Graham!.
The unforgivable mistake of losing on Senior Night would leave an opening for the winner of Monday night's Tech @WVU game to tie KU for the title this year. Our tradition observant KU Mens Basketball team needs to slam shut that door!
So, Jayhawks hoopsters, AFH crowd and Jayhawks fans EVERYWHERE -- here's to the Seniors and the entire team exiting The Phog one last time this year with HUGE smiles on their faces after another KU victory!

A 7-10 record seriously hampers their chances, as IIRC no team with just 7 wins -- 2 wins under .500 -- in conference play has earned an at-large invite before. So losing today, barring a strong run in the Big 12 Tournament -- where they will most likely play Texas on Wednesday and, if they beat Texas, KANSAS on Thursday -- may very well be their death knell for The Dance.

Trying to beat KState for the third time this year will be tough, but it can be done!
And there is talk from Manhattan that Dean Wade will be sitting out the rest of the Big 12 Tournament due to aggravating a stress fracture in his foot. We should hear officially sometime Friday.

And so it begins...
After a season of ups and downs and worries and triumphs, we have come to the Crucible.
Without an injured Udoka Azubuike, our regular season Big XII champion Jayhawks found another player and another gear and made short work of the field in the Big XII Tournament to earn their second title in this year when many wondered if they would win any.
Now they begin the most unforgiving test of every season, the NCAA Tournament. Once again a 1 seed, despite being arguably the weakest team in Head Coach Bill Self's tenure on The Hill, they are favored by almost everyone to have an excellent chance at making the 8th Elite 8 of the Self era.
Our Jayhawks have seen adversity this year. They have experienced upset and inner turmoil as they searched for their path to once again being Big XII champions. They have seen people that do *not* believe in them have to grudgingly and reservedly admit that they were the best team in the Big XII.
So now our Jayhawks once again face the doubters, but they know they can win! They have found new blood and new life and go forward today on the first step of a journey they plan to end with a victory.l
They have to now go out and JUST DO IT!
