NCAA considering eliminating sitting a year

Finally looking to support the student athlete and not just the transient coach.

I don't tie a coach's ability to move to a players.

The coach is under a negotiated employment contract, and if the school has enough leverage, it could impose a one year non-compete if a coach wants to leave. Rarely do the schools have that leverage, thus few if any non-competes exist. Employees are free to quit and move so long as it doesn't violate a contract, or a non-compete. The schools just can't impose those limitations on most coaches.

Players currently don't have the leverage, the NCAA and the schools do. Thus, the one-year non-compete if they transfer exists. Maybe the leverage is shifting, and maybe that's the reason for the rule change. But, this seems to be a potential mess. If the coach yells too much, or the player gets benched for some reason, or the player sees better pastures somewhere else, there will be an onslaught of transfers. We've seen young men make bad decisions (WKU kid), and get bad advice. This will just exacerbate the bad decisions, and we will end up with pro baseball, where you don't know the roster from one season to the next, and interest wanes (KC Royals excluded for past few years!)

I'm against this rule. At worst, a kid sitting out grows up for an extra year, hones his skills, and generally produces at a higher level. This isn't a bad result.
