How, again, are they still in the tourney?

And we will all be asking this same damn question next year, the year after, etc. It is truly disgusting.

Let us hope they are shown the door tomorrow night. I Just don't want to see anyone hand that NC trophy to this school on Monday night. If so, crime does pay.

As North Carolina continues to dodge and weave with the NCAA on legal technicalities and jurisdictional issues – just as it dodged and weaved with the facts until the Wainstein Report finally put an end to that – it becomes increasingly clear that this will be a fight to the academic death, that whatever end result is reached with the NCAA will only be preamble to a lengthy and expensive court battle, Folt et al v. Emmert et al, or something of that ilk.

All that despite the obvious reality that only the most blue-dyed North Carolina fan could read the Wainstein Report and not accept that the university was in the wrong to some degree between mild and grotesque, by the spirit of NCAA rules if not the letter.

To paraphrase Elmore Leonard: “You’re trying to tell me you screwed up without sounding stupid, and that’s hard to do.”

At least the NYT ran the story. It's sad that nobody else seems to care at this point. Hope they get crushed tonight.

I am SO with you on your closing point.

If there is any karma in the college basketball universe, Few and Gonzaga deservedly get their first title tonight and the TarHoles go down in flames, denied for the second straight year.

PS: May the Holes go 12-30 from the charity stripe (or worse) just to pour salt in it.

(You all know what I'm talking about)

Hopefully the refs (will be a different three if that matters) don't call all the fouls on Gonzaga, like they did in SC game (21-14) and poking a guy's eye out isn't a foul.

My brother in law, whom I like very much and get along with, is a Tar Heel alum. He, and most alums I assume, have taken the position that UNC simply offered "easy classes" to their athletes, and had tutors help their athletes, including writing some of their papers. They believe that every school does the exact same (and points out Notre Dame who got caught having a tutor write some papers for star football players). They fundamentally do not believe they did anything more than every other school, and that this is a witch hunt.

I also believe every school offers easy classes for athletes, and many tutors do some of the athlete's work. However, I find it hard to believe that most schools go as far as UNC in having fake classes where players don't even show up. Maybe I'm naive.

What I do see is the NCAA being unwilling to hand down any sanctions. Perhaps they too realize that this is a can of worms, even if UNC went way beyond reasonable, and will play this out until it fades away so as to avoid a national embarrassment for many schools that could impact college sports overall.

AZ, I so hope you are wrong.

I have to believe that, in the end, the organization that prevented KU from defending its 1988 title because of an airplane ticket for a recruit whose granny was dying (a recruit who decided not to transfer after all) still has the stones to do the right thing, no matter how big the offender may be. They used to have that intestinal fortitude (see UCLA 1980). I have to hope they still do.

Not that this video really matters in the big scheme, but it is at least refreshing to see someone not happy with the situation in Chapel Hill.
