HCBS- Too tight early, fortunate that UK wasn't as sharp either or it could have been much worse. Won the game in the final minutes of the 1st half when KU got back into it. Finally started finishing on the offensive end. The zone D especially with Briscoe out helped set the stage. Transition D was good overall. That carried over into the scond half.

Josh showed country tonight with that versatile display. HCBS granted there were many very talented players around the country but he wouldn't trade any for #11.

He was very complimentary of Lucas wi his play inside and 6-6 from the field.

Radio guys favorite stat of the night was pointing out that this was only the 4th time UK has lost when they take a 10 point lead at any stage of the game. Those are some steep odds...way to hang!

Thanks for posting HCBS's comments. I agree that getting back into the game at the end of the first half was huge.

A few thoughts:

After missing all 7 threes in the first half, the law of averages kicked in and we hit some huge ones in the second half (especially the one by Mason that hit the heel of the rim and died, but went in!).

We didn't shoot free throws well, but neither did UK (thank you, Adebayo).

We contained Monk (pretty much) in the latter part of the first half and most of the second half. I hadn't noticed this until the announcers pointed it out. Did anyone notice what adjustments HCBS made to contain him?

Fox, who really seemed so fast at the start of the game, appeared a lot more "human" in the latter part of the game.

JJ spoke about the zone D throwing off UK. Sometimes its hard to transition style of play and it definitely had the intended effect.

Asked about his tip-in in second half that spurred the final surge to put KU up. Mentioned it was fun with the team participation in the comeback. It took everybody making plays on both ends.

Noted being hungry for a win off the loss, like Uk would be, but they were hungrier and put the on and off court issues behind them.

Frank up next. Mentioned putting together defense stops and making little plays to get back into it.

Said Josh was great all around and the team needs him to do that more down the stretch.

Lucas' play in the 2nd half really helped bring about the needed play to win the game.

Switching up D helped save legs some but that HCBS had mentioned before game that UK had a hard time against zone D so when he switched it wasn't a surprise.

Got to focus on the things we can control and not worry about the rest.

Norm Roberts to wrap...

Ill advised shots and not getting back in transition early. Coaches had tried to drive the UK team speed home, but sometimes you just got to see it...

Ball reversal and finding the lanes for interior passing were his keys for the strong play during the second half hat completed the turn around.
