Hope you all got to listen to the great Bob Davis introducing the Seniors for their thoughts...all great as usual...but I agree with Greg Gurley that Jamari Traylor gave one of the best ever! There's a point there in about the middle where he will just tear... you... up and tear you up! Sure hope someone can find and post a link to it...If you do...thanks! ...and Enjoy! Well Done and Godspeed young man! Rock Chalk! :cheer:

Jamari had tears running down this old man's face. What a touching moment.

The end of this photo sequence
has photos of Self wiping away tears, I think during Jamari's speech. What a turnaround in that guy's life. He graduated in December.

Get some kleenex tissues ready. Especially when both he and Self are wiping tears from their eyes.

This is what it's all about--the growth of a young man into a man (off the court and on), and the steady, quiet role of a great coach and loving soul in that process.

Hats off to JAMARI, a Jayhawk through and through. And to Coach Self, for being such a tremendous coach, father figure, and caretaker of these fine young men we know as Jayhawks.

I would also like to apologize to Jamari for so frequently questioning and critiquing his play on the court. I've always loved his story and was thankful he came to KU, but I was rough on him earlier this season. Since then, he's done nothing but prove his worth and show his mettle. He may be just a niche contributor, but he's an important one--a key element of our TEAM. Hats off to you, young man, on your final game at KU, but also--very much so--to working so hard and earning your degree, so that you can beam with pride as you walk down Mount Oread like so many of us did. What a thrill, what an honor, what an accomplishment.

Rock Chalk, Mari!

“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”

1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
