Marty had a nice 13 year career in the majors, his last 7 spent with the Royals.

Anna and I met Marty and Vera Pattin in 1991 in Seoul, Korea. Marty had taken a 1 year position as a pitching coach with a Korean baseball team (the OB Bears IIRC). A cousin of Anna’s with ties to Marty gave him our name and contact info (I was stationed in Seoul at the time with the Army’s 18th Medical Command) and we helped them best we could to get settled in their short term home for their overseas adventure.

We stayed in contact over the years, but had not been in touch for at least two years now. Vera passed away in the early 2000s, and now Marty is gone as well.

Guess they needed another good pitcher upstairs.
