------------------------------REGULAR SEASON ENDS-------------------------------
#THE SENIOR GAME sending off just Marcus (maybe), as Chris and Mitch have announced
they are staying for their COVID19 extra year.
The Jayhawks never lost a Senior Game in 20 years under
Larry Brown (5 seasons, 1983-88) and
Roy Williams (15 seasons, 1988-2003).
Bill Self's teams have expanded the streak to 38 years running. The last time KANSAS
lost a Senior Game -- usually the final home game of the season for our Jayhawks --
was on Mar 2, 1983 -- NU 60 KU 58

Note well -- I like Bryce Thompson, and think he will be an excellent player
in his career. I highlight the Thompson injury above as it points out that
even losing a bench player can make a difference in a team's performance
if the drop off between that player and the "next man up" is significant enough.

Saturday is a sunny and mild December day in Lawrence as our #7AP/#5 Coaches Kansas Jayhawks host the North Dakota State University Bison for another ALLEN FIELDHOUSE...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL DAY!!

Our Jayhawks (3-1, 0-0) and the Bison (0-3, 0-0) tip off at 3 p.m. (CT) on ESPN+, Dave Armstrong (play-by-play) and Nick Bahe (analyst) our talking heads.

CBSSports.com: College Basketball Rankings (AP, Coaches, CBS 25+1, NET)

ESPN's Basketball Power Index favors Kansas 97.1% to 2.9%, with an estimated 24 point winning margin.

KUAthletics.com Game Day Notes
NB: Just a reminder as we move deeper into this COVID19 afflicted season that the Game Day Notes are darned impressive. This edition contains thirty two (32) pages comprising a media – and fan – mini-mother lode of KU info. Check it out! Included below are some of the current neato keeno tidbits for ya! (Is it not nifty?)

• Through four games, Kansas has had four different players lead the team in scoring and steals.
• Kansas has been ranked in each of the last 222 Associated Press polls dating back to 2008-09. The 222-consecutive weeks in the AP poll is an all-time record, surpassing UCLA’s 221 from 1966-80. KU holds the same streak in the coaches’ poll at 229.
• This season, Kansas men’s basketball will be wearing a patch that reads “UNITED WE STAND” signifying its stance on the recent social injustice in the United States. The patch has gold lettering with the black background being in the shape of the state of Kansas.
• With its win against Saint Joseph’s (11/27), Kansas improved to 97-13following a loss in the Bill Self era, which started in 2003-04, including 3-0 last season in 2019-20. Incredibly, KU has been even more efficient over the last six-plus seasons, amassing a record of 46-5 after losses.
• Kansas’ last six losses have been to ranked foes, with three of those in the top five.
• Senior Marcus Garrett was named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 on Dec. 1. Garrett has been named to every national player of the year watch list for 2020-21.
• Redshirt-senior Mitch Lightfoot posted three blocked shots against Washburn (12/3) and became the 21st player in KU history to record 100 career blocks, currently at 102.
• With its 89-54 win against Washburn in Allen Fieldhouse on Dec. 3, the Jayhawks have won a mind-boggling 48-straight home openers beginning in 1973-74 under head coach Ted Owens.

Hope you have a great day, and as always, be safe out there *and* be a potentially life saving hero -- MASKS ON!
A life is a terrible thing to waste. (A PSA from your friendly neighborhood retired Army Medical Service Corps Jayhawk.)

And it's against Omaha. Without looking it up, I would think they're a DII school. Nothing wrong with that of course, but if they are, pretty cool that they're still televising the game nationally.

D1, Summit League

From the University of Nebraska - Omaha Wikipedia page..
=====================
The university's sports teams, branded as "Omaha", have been nicknamed the Mavericks since 1971.[36] In 2011, 13 of the 16 sports that the university then sponsored moved from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I and The Summit League. The exceptions were men's ice hockey, which already competed in Division I; and football and wrestling, both of which UNO dropped. Wrestling had been the school's most successful sport with national championships in 1991, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2011.[37] The Omaha men's ice hockey team, the state's only Division I ice hockey program, became charter members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference in 2011 with play beginning in the 2013–14 season, following a major conference realignment. Previously, Omaha had been in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association since 2010–11. Omaha added teams in men's golf and men's soccer in 2011.
=====================

Noting with some amazement that in 2011 they dropped wrestling, the sport in which they had excelled, winning 7 NCs in the previous 21 seasons from 1991 thru 2011.

ESPN: Nebraska Omaha faces tough test v #5 Kansas

KUAD Game Preview: Omaha

KUAD Game Notes: Nebraska Omaha
Some highlights from the 33 pages of KU goodness...
• #5/5 Kansas continues its five-game homestand.
• The 73-72 win against #8/7 Creighton on Dec. 8 in Allen Fieldhouse improved Kansas to 15-3 against Associated Press
top-10 teams at home in the Bill Self era.
• Through six games, Kansas has had four different players lead the team in scoring and five in steals. This includes ties for the team high.
• Kansas has been ranked in each of the last 223 Associated Press polls dating back to 2008-09. The 223-consecutive weeks in the AP poll is an all-time record, surpassing UCLA’s 221 from 1966-80. KU holds the same streak in the coaches’ poll at 230.
• Kansas has been ranked in the top 10 in each of the last 22 polls dating back the first poll of the 2019-20 season.
• This season, Kansas men’s basketball will be wearing a patch that reads “UNITED WE STAND” signifying its stance on the recent social injustice in the United States. The patch has gold lettering with the black background being in the shape of the state of Kansas.

• Redshirt-freshman Jalen Wilson has led KU in scoring three of the last four games posting 23 points against two ranked foes - #20 Kentucky and #8 Creighton.

Nebraska Omaha Game Notes: Kansas

Some interesting Mavericks tidbits from their Game Notes...
• Friday's tilt marks the second time the Mavericks have faced two ranked opponents in the same season (they lost to #9 Creighton 94-67 back on December 1). . The last was 2017-18 with No. 18 Louisville and No. 13 Kansas, 31 days apart.
• F Matt Pile owns the third-most total rebounds nationally. His 761 career rebounds are the sixth-most of any active player in
NCAA Division I, and his 22 career double-doubles are the 12th-most.
• Pile needs 21 points to become the 42nd 1,000-point scorer in Maverick history.
• The Mavericks have a 10-game non-conference slate, all on the road from Nov. 25 to Dec. 29. During that time, their
home facility, Baxter Arena, will serve as the host site for the NCHC Pod, with 38 hockey games held Dec. 1-21.
• Omaha plays 18 of its 26 games away from Baxter Arena this season.
• Omaha was picked fourth in the Summit League's preseason poll. Pile was a first-team Preseason All-Summit
selection, and Marlon Ruffin was a second-team pick.

#5/5 KU (6-1, 0-0) travels to Lubbock to play #14/14 Texas Tech (6-1, 0-0). TV Game voices will be Dan Shulman (play-by-play) and Jay Bilas (analyst), KU radio voices will be Brian Hanni (play-by-play) and Greg Gurley (analyst).

The ESPN pregame prediction favors Tech 2 to 1, spotting KU just a 32.9% chance of winning in Lubbock. ESPN Pick Center write up is not yet available as I write this, but searching elsewhere on the web the spread looks to be low, [EDIT] 2 points in Tech's favor link

Some interesting Red Raiders tidbits from the Tech TT Game Notes Game Notes...
OVERALL: Kansas leads 37-6
LAST MEETING: No. 1 Kansas won 66-62 (3/7/2020 - Lubbock)
NOTES: The Jayhawks won both meetings in the series last season after the two programs had split the previous two
years. Tech earned a 91-62 win over KU at home on Feb. 23, 2019.
HC CHRIS BEARD: Earned his 100th win at Texas Tech last Saturday against A&M-Corpus Christi
A CONVERSATION PATCH: Texas Tech will have a patch on its jersey all season that was the idea of Kyler Edwards with collaboration from his teammates. The patch depicts a rotten apple core and is described by Edwards as:
“The team wanted to make a patch that was unique and not just something that everyone else had. We want to get rid of all the bad apples in all walks of life, including police brutality, sexism and racism. These are topics around the world and we have the support of our coaches. We need to keep talking about it until it gets fixed.” The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved rules to allow student-athletes in all sports to wear patches on their uniforms for commemorative and memorial purposes, as well as to support social justice issues.

Supplementing the KUAD Game Notes, here are Wildeboor's pregame notes from JayhawkSlant (pay site)
• Kansas leads the all-time series with Iowa State, 184-66, dating back to 1908.
• KU has won the last two matchups, yet the series is in favor of KU, 7-5, in the last 12 meetings.
• Kansas holds a 95-16 advantage in games played in Lawrence, including a 54-10 mark in Allen Fieldhouse. Beginning in 2006, KU has won the last three and 14 of the last 15 in Allen Fieldhouse against Iowa State.
• Kansas is 98-13 following a loss in the Bill Self era, which started in 2003-04, including 2-0 this season and 3-0 in 2019-20. Incredibly, KU has been even more efficient over the last six-plus seasons, amassing a record of 47-5 after losses. This includes an 8-1 mark in 2018-19.
• Kansas has had four different leading scorers in four of its last six games with David McCormack (3), Jalen Wilson, Christian Braun and Ochai Agbaji.
• Kansas leads the Big 12 in blocked shots per game at 4.6 and ranks in the upper half of 11 conference stat categories.
• Seven of Kansas’ last eight losses have been to ranked foes, with three of those in the top five.
• Junior Ochai Agbaji leads the Big 12 in 3-point field goal percentage (42.7) and 3-point field goals made (2.7). Agbaji has made 22 threes in his last seven games.
• Junior David McCormack is averaging 20.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots per game in his last three outings. He has two 20-point efforts in his last three games with 20 at TCU (1/5) and 24, with 12 rebounds, at Oklahoma State (1/12).

Realized that I had the wrong info for this week's home game against TCU.

I'm thinking it got pushed back because of the virus issues TCU has been having (their last 3 games have been postponed) and I missed the schedule change.

Hopefully they will be good to go for Thursday.

And Anna and I hope all of you and yours are doing okay -- at the very least holding you own -- given our current dystopic circumstances.

To better days...
