With a possible 16 games left before closing the book on the AY2018-19 season, KU would need to finish the year 15-1 to reach 33 wins this year.

To get to 33 that 1 loss can come in the regular season, or else the Big XII Tournament title game or the NC game.

Needless to say I’d prefer they win the next 16 games and finish 34-6, but allowing for them losing just one more game my preference would be sweep the remaining regular season games, lose the one game in the Big XII Tournament title game and then win 6 straight.

Dream on... (but got to have a dream... if you don’t have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?)

WON-LOST
as KU HC NAME (W-L%) CAREER (W-L%)
1. 590-219 Phog Allen (.729) 746-264 (.739)
2. 472-105 BILL SELF (.818) 679-210 (.764)
118 = Wins to tie Phog
SELF'S PROJECTED "PASS YEAR": AY2022-23*
AY2018-19 record to date is 25-9.
AY2017-18 final record was 31-8.
*The "Pass Year" projection for Bill passing Phog as the all-time winningest KU coach assumes KU averages 30 wins a year from the AY2018-19 season on, and that he will continue to coach for KU beyond his current contract, which ends with the AY2021-22 season (see How much longer will Bill Self coach?" by Matt Tait).

NB:
31.3
-6.0
is the average annual W-L record for Self's KU teams over the last 12 seasons (AY2006-07 thru 2017-18).
29.8-6.4 is his average annual W-L record for his entire KU career (includes his first 3 seasons at KU).
Winning at least 33 games in AY2018-19 would have made his KU career average 30 wins a year or better.
That is no longer possible this year.
