Frank is halfway to NCAA "Consensus NPOY" status

The Sporting News
Associated Press

USBWA announcement is due tomorrow, March 31.
NABC announcement will probably be over FF weekend.

Note that the NCAA does not use either the Wooden or Naismith awards in determining consensus status.

But who else are those stalwarts going to choose?

The only logical choice is our man Frank!

It's official:

Consensus NPOY!

Congratulations to an exceptional player, young man, and steward of our university.

Simply outstanding.

“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”

The John R. Wooden Award for NPOY will be announced this Friday.

The finalists for this award include:

FRANK MASON III, KANSAS
Lonzo Ball, UCLA
Josh Hart, Villanova
Caleb Swanigan, Purdue*
Nigel Williams-Goss, Gonzaga

*Wooden's alma mater. Not only a great coach, he was AA and NPOY for Purdue, so great that he is in the NMBHOF as both a coach and a player.

Announcement will be made as part of ESPN's College Basketball Awards show.

Date: Friday, April 7
Time: 7:00-8:30 pm CST
ESPN2

Time for Frank to finish with a clean sweep of the NPOY awards!

One POY award left, but also the Hoophall Bob Cousy award (Frank) and the Julius Erving award (JJ) will be announced at same time as Wooden award.

I echo everyone's congratulations--what a wonderful young man and very deserving. Glad to see he didn't get overshadowed in peoples minds by the Dookies and UNC's.

So the Wooden award is the only one left? As far as I could tell, he's gotten them all so far including of course the big one--Naismith. I read that there was only one year in which the Wooden and Naismith did NOT go to the same player so keeping fingers crossed! Hopefully that UCLA connection with the Ball kid doesn't screw up that award!

You are correct, rainy, FMIII has been awarded every NPOY award so far this postseason.
Matt Tait on FMII's NPOYs

TTBOMK, these are the remaining awards that have KU players or HCBS in the running:

Wooden NPOY (Frank should win)
Bob Cousy PG of the Year (Frank should win)
Julius Erving SF of the Year (Hopefully Josh will win)

All to be announced this Friday evening during ESPN's College Basketball Awards show.
Date: Friday, April 7
Time: 7:00-8:30 pm CST
ESPN2

Does anyone know if POY awards are historically unambitious? Or would it be a rare event for all NPOY's be awarded to a single player?

From my post just above yours - "•Should Mason win the Wooden Award, he would become the third student-athlete in the last four years to sweep the national player of the year honors. Creighton's Doug McDermott swept in 2014 as did Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky in 2015."
So, not so unusual at least recently.

Fingers crossed...

Very sad line from Tait:

With that, his Kansas career will officially be over, when the walk to accept the Wooden Award — should he win it — will mark the final time that Mason represents KU on a national stage.

:(

Some things you just never want to see end...
