7/9/01 - From Jayhawk Slant. A tremendous defender and shot blocker, he is only now beginning to develop his offensive skills. From Senegal, Mouyale is athletic but quite slender, exhibiting lots of potential. Prep West Hoops described him as "Moulaye Niang might have the most upside among" their top west coast centers. Mouyale is at the Nike Camp this week. Hoop Scoop had this to say about Mouyale after his play in the Rumble in the Bronx Tournament - "Niang, who will be ranked among the top 100 juniors nationally when we update our list national list later this week, was the biggest sleeper in the tournament." They described him similiarly as Gibbons - an athletic shot blocker, excellent rebounder and aggressive inside. Best of all, he continues the trend of being a super kid by their report. They admitted he needs to continue developing offensive skills and getting stronger but he has a lot of upside even to the point of mentioning the NBA. His play in NY has boosted him into the top 100 in their opinion.
7/25/01 - Expanded his list of schools per PrepStars site.
10/12/01 - Reports from around the internet puts KU squarely on Mouyale's map. He is attending Late Night this weekend. It appears that KU and San Diego State are his two finalists. Only in the States a brief period he had to make up a lot of ground and not just in basketball. He barely spoke english and had very limited exposure to basketball living in his native country Sengal. A very good soccer player, he naturally has quick feet. He jumps and blocks shots quite well and runs the court extremely well. He has a lot of potential due to his athleticism and hard work but is still raw offensively. He is developing a baby jump hook and beginning to extend his range but is far more advanced defensively.
10/16/01 - Mouyale enjoyed his visit at Late Night and visibly participated in crowd interaction several times, clapping and smiling at the activities on the floor. Jayhawk Slant indicated he committed yesterday and the Lawrence Journal World confirmed his commitment this morning.
11/5/01 - PrepStars had this report out of their archive files on Mouyale: "... when we first saw Niang at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions last spring, we thought the sky was the limit. Right now he's a skinny shot blocking athlete who runs the court like a deer, possesses excellent 3-point shooting range, and is a tremendous competitor. But he's only just begun to scratch the surface. The fact that he's a terrific student and a wonder kid are just added pluses."
