5/14/01 - Denham's name shows up on the Rockchalk bbs as coming from PrepStar. Apparently coach Williams has been up to see the young man. There have been a number of quality Canadians make their way to US colleges recently and have done quite well. It seems that the young man has a busy summer lined up with stops at the Nike camp, the Big-Time in Las Vegas and the NBA Players' Association camp. 7/9/01 - It appears from recent articles that Denham is leaning strongly towards KU. A very strong player, he still demonstrates range on his shot and enough quickness to play the perimeter. Bob Gibbons had this to say about Denham from the NBPA Camp - "... a strong wing who's adept at scoring both inside and outside. He sheds defenders well on drives to the hoop, and is an outstanding leaper. Struggled with his shot Friday, but came back Saturday and was very effective." Denham is at the Nike Camp this week. 7/17/01 Denham is apparently taking the U.S. by storm this summer and has had a solid performance everytime he steps on the court. Most recently was his play in the Nike camp. Many reports talk about his physical development and leaping ability, even about playing "bigger" than his size, being willing to go in the paint and mix it up, rebounding and playing solid defense. Everything to like about a player. He has held his own all summer against the top talent. Coaches from Villanova and Virginia watched him practice in a small camp recently and afterwards he gave a list to Mike Sullivan that includes a lot of the top hitters and KU. 8/16/01 - Denham has pared his list and he is most interested in KU, Virginia, UConn, Rutgers and Villanova. Most likely KU is targeting him for Late Night. Canadians do not get the exposure to the various schools like US kids get so the thought is Late Night would give the best representation prior to an actual game. 9/25/01 - Denham pulled the trigger and verballed to UConn after he saw several of his favorite schools taking verbals from others he was in consideration for. It may have been that knowing that KU was only going to sign one wing and reading of their push for Hassan Adams played into his decision. |
